I haven't tried this, but I saw in in a homemaking book. In a pretty ceramic bowl (just a small one) put a bunch of baking soda. To it add some drops of a nice essential oil. The baking soda absorbs odors and the oil scents the room. You can add more oil as needed.

I can't wait to try it.

The vinegar trick a pp mentioned works. Leave it out for at least 24 hours and the smell will be gone.

You can also boil pots of water with cloves and cinnamon. Add apple peels for a apple pie smell. Or boiling any citrus fruit peel (orange peel, lemon peel) alone will make your house smell good.

Try placing fabric softener sheets in the bottoms of the trash and baby's diaper pail.

    I won't be around much.

We have some of the plug in warmers from walmart, and some of the liquid potpourri, they work great at covering odors, they also have the matching sprays that are fabric safe.

I use the Oust Air and Surface spray- One fell swoop I get the trashcan inside and out- then the air (run the fans on low) and do the same motion in the kids room (diaper pail), kitchen and bathroom.

This is only temporary between cooking and cleaning, and the only thing that keeps the litterbox smell at bay until I have the energy to nag DH to clean it....

Have you checked your potato bin?How about the drain pan under your fridge?Sometimes the underlip of the garbage disposal is gunky.Maybe the steam from your shampooer is putting out too much steam and making your subflooring under carpet and pad too wet and mildew has grown.I hope you find the answer soon.Hope something helps for you.

my sister told me yesterday that she puts a dryer sheet in a spray bottle and fills it with water. she lets it sit for a little while and then sprays it around the house to freshen it up. probably wouldn't want a really strong smelling one with the baby, even though the scent is diluted by water
