In January of this year my beautiful daughter was born at 36 weeks gestation. Within a matter of hours she was med-flighted to OU Children's Hospital and admitted to the NICU for several weeks. As if the year did not start out already on a bad foot, a few weeks after getting home and settled in, I woke up in the middle of the night to realize that I had a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack) also known as a small stroke or a "warning stroke." I lost complete vision to my left eye and had partial paralysis to my left side. My doctor referred me to a neurologist who ran a series of tests on me but told me that he had some concerns. Within a matter of days I received a call telling me that all the tests came back positive for Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
I am now on 10+ medications a day including daily shots to slow progression of the disease itself. The news devistated my family and myself. I worry most about my children as it is unknown if the disease itself can be passed down. Although some days I find it very difficult to do simple tasks such as walking, I have decided to support a wonderful cause and I hope that you support me in my efforts as I participate in the Walk MS 2011 event on May 21, 2011. I hope to be able to raise or even exceed my goal of $300 toward a great cause. Everyday living with MS makes you appriciate what you have been given in life and the people around you. I can't wait to see what we can do together as part of such an amazing community!
If you would like to donate, you may do so by going to my personal page for the Walk MS 2011 event found
here. Any amount you are able to contribute would be greatly appricated as I work toward my goal. You can also sign up to join me on my walk either in person (for those in the Ardmore, OK area) or you may sign up as a "Phantom walker" no matter where you reside. Also, please remember that all donations are tax-deductable, and you should also check with your employer to see if they have a matching gift policy. If so, this will double or maybe even triple your pledge. Please send in the matching gift form from your company with your check.
Thank you for supporting myself and my family as we fight toward a cure!
