HOT The state of healthcare really makes me angry!!!

Why is it that Health Insurance sucks so badly? I mean REALLY?! We work in local government. We serve and protect the people in the capital city of our state, and yet.............we STILL cannot afford our medical bills for routine office visits because our insurance sucks so badly. I mean why should I have to pay $773 dollars for routine bloodwork (out of pocket)? When did times get so bad? What the heck man, what the heck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It probably would of been cheaper if you told them you didn't have any insurance

    and yup yup yup.

As soon as my kids are old enough...I will probably be trying to get some kind of job that i can get benefits..and we will get double coverage. As it is currently we stay poor enough to keep #2 on medicaid secondary so we don't go bankrupt.

Our system is completely broken..and half the country..is in denial that it's working. To afraid we would turn into communists if we changed it to something that actually worked. So we will just continue to shoot ourselves in the foot and go broke.

Sorry to hear that... Is there a chance that someone didn't dot an I or cross a t? My husband works in local government and has for the last two years and I have never paid anything more than the actual $10 to 20 at the appointment.

Well I take that back we did pay 1500.00 for my older sons orthodontia but for braces that isn't unusual anywhere unfortunately.

and and that dr.oz just had a big program about this the other day. he want to one of those large medical clinics where they have tons of doctors and equipment and treat as many people as they can that day.

there were women that knew they had a lump but lost their job and their insurance and couldnt go to a doctor. knowing that a surgery or mri could bankrupt them.

I've considered that. It's funny actually (funny=disturbing not ha ha) that without overtime pay we almost qualify for foodstamps and do qualify for WIC. Luckily the overtime has been plentiful enough to keep us afloat without having to go there. I have no idea what we would do without overtime.

ScrappyDoo- are you sure they billed out the insurance right? I work in a family practice office and do all our billing. Some of the insurance companies will cover preventative labs once every 12 months but it has to be billed out right and you have to make sure your insurance will cover it. Was this out of the norm labs or once a year labs? If these were ordered by your doctors office and they put down a diagnosis of say fatigue or whatever it may have been when in fact it is once a year preventative labs they can change the billing codes. The code for preventative labs is V70.0 We often have patients go in and do labs and because not all the insurance companies are on board with covering preventative stuff yet we give them a diagnosis. Then when some patients get a big bill they call and ask us if we can change the billing. We have a standard rebill form the doc sends over to rebill labs to the billing department at the lab. I had one patient who had a bill for $1100 and we did the rebill and it was covered 100%. Just a thought.
