    Default Couponing...gone wrong...

I think I have found a real reason not to buy something you don't need.

Irregardless if it is free or not...

I had an "issue" with my 6th (last) pregnancy. I couldn't drink tea or water....my normal drinks...

I bought Coke 0...never been a soda drinker before....I hated it at first...but, liked it way more then being sick.

I found deal after deal after deal...

I went to the dentist today...I've had 1 cavity my whole life....(8 years ago, right after my first child was born)....

Today I just found out I have 11 cavities!!!!! In 9 teeth!

To the tune of after insurance....*drumroll* $1235!!!!!

Oh, yea we don't have that money by the way.

I got my first Coke 0 that pregnancy due to a free coupon. I planned on giving it away too!

Guess what...temptation set in and I tried it....

Do you know how much I could buy with that money!!!!

I also asked for sedation...but, I have to go in 3 times to fix my cavities...and it will be $70 each time for sedation...really sad I'm thinking about asking for no sedation (I'm a bad teeth patient, really, really, bad).

So sorry to hear this I know the feeling. I was a Mountain Dew drinker for all my teen years and had beautiful until you looked at my back teeth and the inside surfaces of my teeth. I brushed regularly too. I ended up having to have 3 root canals this was all after I had my first child. I had my second child then when in for a cleaning and was told I had an in between the teeth cavity so I made my appointment to have it taken care of. I got in the chair and the "young girls" who were working on me at the time looked like they were barley out of high school laughing and giggling, I was not totally numb and I was like ouch!! They were like oh you still feel the pain!? I said yes and then they ere like oh you need a root canal I was livid I said I don't think so!! That was in 2005! I just this past March dragged my but back into a dentist office and thye had to re- fill some old fillings ( not really sure why) $$ I'm sure! So Then they telling me the tooth that has been let go is in need of a root canal or being pulled. I said I will be going along the lines of pulling it then they tell me I also risk the crown of the tooth behind it popping off I wasn't impressed with that thought so it is still in there e all had our cleanings done again in September. My Ds 13 yr old had sealants put on his teeth in 2003 and they ( this is btw a totally different location from prior work for us all.) they said he needs sealants I said he has already had sealants put on his teeth, they said well they are all wore away I said o.k if the insurance is going to pay for them might as well I don't want my kids having teeth like mine. So today I got our Insurance explanation of benefits 8 teethe sealed @ $42.00 per tooth and fluoride treatment $ 25 and exam fee of $45.00 I told Dh I am really glad his work has such good coverage on the kids. I couldn't have paid the $406.00 for the second dental visit this year for just him. I still ould like to come up the the $$ to get my tooth pulled but it will be one of those things I just won't take care of it until it is too bad :( or I am in a lot of pain.

I hope you are able to get you things taken care of I really love my oral- b 3- D plaque remover. It is a rechargeable tooth brush My Dh bought it for me Christmas of 2002 and have has lots of comments form my dentist about how nice and free my teeth are free of plaque. They tell me I have really nice teeth, maybe they tell me that because they want me to pay out my rear for another root canal whoo know!!

Being pregnant alone can do that to your teeth. I know you dont think so for it did not do it with the other 5 times but as you age your body changes. I am not saying the coke is not part of the blame but I dont think it is the whole problem.

Ya...coke zero is sugar free. However pregnancy can literally strip everything good out of your teeth. Esp if you have medical issues during your pregnancy..and need to limit your diet. It will take every nutrient you have out of your teeth.

one cousin of mine is extremely iron deficient in her pregnancies..and won't eat meat. She was downing iron pills like crazy and it was doing nothing, she got severely anemic each time. 4th pregnancy..she just popped her iron pills and thought nothing of it. Within a couple of months after she had the baby..her teeth began to abscess. Her body just robbed her teeth of everything the baby needed.

I worked with a lady who got pregnant very young and was in denial about it-so she never did any prenatal care or prenatal vitamins. THe baby robbed her body for nutrients-and her teeth ended up a weird grayish color from it. Her kids are all now grown, but her teeth never recovered.

I do agree that soda of any kinda can really hurt teeth. I'm sorry Bigdog that you are having to go through all of this expensive dentist stuff-that sucks! ((Hugs))

That is what I said...(not a candy eater...not that much at least)...

They said it is the acid in soda, not the sugar...they said when I do drink from now on use a straw...can't figure out why...the cavities are in the back teeth not the front.

I was going to say it's the acid too. My dentist told me he's seen a huge surge in cavities the past few years because of people sipping on cola products all day.

That said, there's also an old wives' tale that says "a tooth for every baby" or something along those lines and even though professionals scoff it's one of those things that a lot of moms have seen happen and know can be true.

Are they all small cavities? Can you get another opinion somewhere? That seems really high.

Did they mention putting sealants on your teeth to help prevent this in the future?

That happened to me after I had my daughter. I had 10 or 11 cavities. I let the dentist talk me into composite fillings, but he neglected to tell me they have to be replaced every few years...well guess what? They need to be replaced and I don't know where that money is coming from? Acidic foods and drinks will wear away your enamel, you should swish with water after you drink soda pop.
