This thread made me laugh. I was actually going to post something about my husband, then I found this thread.
Some background: my parents (married 30 years) have always grocery shopped together. And now my husband and I shop together. We live in the city I grew up in, and most Saturday afternoons we'll bump into my parents at the store. He loves shopping, and it's a nice way for us to spend time together in what is otherwise a very hectic week. We like walking the aisles, plus I don't cook, so I usually need to his input on what he wants to make. Over the years, I've gotten really good with matching sales with coupons and knowing what he'll want, BUT... I'm a "list-shopper", he is a "that-looks-good-shopper".
I have my list and stacks of coupons, but I can never get better than 20-30% savings because of what he is sticking in the cart. We've started doing two orders: one with sale and coupon items, and one with everything else, just so I can get a more accurate picture of the impact the coupons are having.
I've tried doing the "whole insert storage method" and just clipping what I need for my list, but I'm working on switching to a binder b/c I need to be ready JUST IN CASE.
It can be frustrating when random things work their way in the cart, but I guess I've come to peace with this, b/c I sincerely LIKE to shop with him.
