I hope you're able to fix it and she won't have to go back in.
Sounds like me and my dh on teeth! I am 26 yr old and always seem to get cavities, root canal cap and think I need a second tooth pulled soon. I will be getting a tooth implant that looks and feels like reg tooth soon. My teeth look good and healthy prob because I have had prob 10,000 worth of work done last 3 yrs. My hubby on the other hand is 30 yr old and forget to brush and has had 1 cavities. My hubby mom is almost 50 smokes drinks eat a lot of candy and has has 3 cavities in her life. My mom is 56 yr old eats very healthy never smokes always brush and gets cavities non stop. My father also has horrible teeth and has had 5 implants done and tons more. He has prob put a good 50 grand or more in his mouth. I think some people have stronger teeth then others. I would be in a painful mess if I didn't have dental insurance and health saving account.

I really feel bad for people that can't the dental work that need done. I have been missing a back tooth for about 3 and half yrs now. I am finally going to go see someone to get a new one. Then I will prob pull a different back 1 and get another fake tooth when I pay first one off. All my teeth look like there are in good shape. The other 1 I will pull had a root canal and cap over 2500 work done. It didn't. Work out and would rather pull and put implant then do another expensive root canal that might fail again. I get annoyed about my teeth all the time but life goes on I guess. It seems once my teeth are doing good I always have to put more money in them. I went 4 yrs without going dentist and wish I never did that. I go to dentist every 3 to 4 months now.

    Your poor daughter. :o(

You are correct that some children can be more prone to developing cavities. I would also try your best to limit cross-contamination with other members of the family. No sharing cups or silverware, as the specific strain of bacteria that causes decay (strep mutans) can be passed to other people through saliva.

I would speak with your dentist about an at-home fluoride regimen. With the temporary crowns, decay can still occur along the base of the tooth, so just because the crown is there, this does not mean that these teeth will not be susceptible anymore. Another option is a professionally-applied 5% fluoride varnish brushed along the base of the teeth. You'll need to be careful that she doesn't ingest too much fluoride (this can cause systemic fluorosis or discoloring of her remaining teeth), so with anything you implement, please seek the guidance of your dentist first.

When her permanent teeth erupt, you'll also want to talk about getting her posterior teeth sealed.

I hope this helps a little,
    Beka

I second the sealants my Ds 13 has them and he has very nice teeth. I had lots of issues with my teeth my dentist when I was little told my mom I would have dentures before I was 25 or something like that.. I still have all my own teeth and a few years of drinking soda a few root canals later. But I do preach to my children brush and I have their teeth sealed. My kids hygienist also recommends Act mouth wash too. I have what some dentist would classify as soft teeth prone to cavities and extreme sensitivity to hot and cold, I have found that the sensitive tooth paste does help some. Maybe you DD has soft teeth and selants ill help her in the long run. I have had really good luck with a oral b tooth brush with a built in timer so I brush for the recommended 2 minutes or so and have not had many issues since limiting my soda intake and the damage was done.. Best wishes to your daughter. I hope everything will work out for her and she will have new healthy back teeth come in.

Xylitol gum. I swear by it now. The hygenist is completely right, decay is caused by bacteria which I had in abundance. I gave it to my daughter and she was in the same boat with caps on the back teeth and front teeth pulled. I'd finally had enough and went to 9 pieces of Xylitol gum a day for her *and* I and she hasn't had a cavity since, nor have I. (knock on wood.) It isn't cheap, but it sure it cheaper than a lifetime of dental work. She'll have her adult teeth sealed too.
