Not a small store but all of the stores in this area seem to have that problem. Even Costco! I try to remember to check all dates all the time now. I hate buying food only to find out it is spoiled because it's really old.
Does anyone else have a small local grocery store (or ANY grocery store) that often has expired foods on the shelf? I have gotten to where I check everything before putting it in my cart. Just yesterday, all the blueberry cream cheese had expired in July.
And my issue isn't the expired foods themselves, because I understand that it's a small store that doesn't get a ton of business so yes, things are sometimes going to go out of date. But it's the fact that it happens very often and every time I mention it to the employees (very politely) They just act like they don't care.

I also check dates on everything I buy! I always get whatever expires the latest. Costco fruits up are always started to spoil. I will lift box up and get the fresher food.
I recently noticed cereal that expired almost a year ago at walmart, so it isn't just small stores that need to get their act together.
we have a small grocery store that has one or at most, two day expired dairy products. I like to hunt those that are expiring that day since they mark it down to .25, regardless of what it is. I have no problem with any of them since we consume them immediately. they give me more savings without using coupons. I take note of expirate and best buy dates and manage to get huge savings with them![]()
I noticed frozen food that had expired a year earlier at a major grocery store once. It seems to happen everywhere - that is why I always check the dates before putting something in my basket - I never assume it is fresh just cause it is at the grocery store.
That's good that they mark them down! My store definitely does not. They will have milk out that expired yesterday and it will still be regular price. One time I bought chocolate milk for my kids and didn't look at the date because usually they drink a half gallon just as fast as I can buy it. Well I got home and went to pour a glass literally within like 5 minutes of being home. It looked like brown cottage cheese. Milk grosses me out to begin with and I was pregnant at the time so I spend a good while barfing after that!
My Fred Meyer always has stuff that is close to expiration. We get all our stuff shipped from Tacoma and I know the warehouse just doesn't take into consideration that it takes 4 days for shipping alone, not to mention how many days it may sit at the yard before it makes it on the ship, plus a day or two for it to get to the store once it arrives here.
My Safeway rarely has that problem. I find borderline stuff at Target too. I do my best to check all expiration dates on everything, but sometimes things slip through. I'm not anal about it, it depends on the item. I use things that are expired...canned, boxed, etc. If it looks. smells or tastes funny, out it goes.
I always check dates-I have had too many bad experiences where I get home and then find out the product expired 3 months ago.
Proud mom to an adorable two year old little boy!
Please excuse my spelling-my LO is on the loose and just learned how to climb-so I am typing as fast as I can!
Three things I will never buy at Costco again. Bananas, onions and potatoes. The bananas are loaded with fruit flies. The onions and potatoes were either all or partially rotted. I also had problems with baby carrots for a while. They were not expired but they were slimy. I read on a carrot website that this is because they were left out of refrigeration at some point.
