Stalked by an extreme couponer while working!

I work for one of Walmarts big competitors. (If you read some of my other posts, you know where I work.) Anyway, last week we were working on further marking down clearance end caps. An extreme couponer was no lie standing approx 1 foot behind me waiting to see what I would mark down next!

I have no problem with couponers! Heck, I am one! HOWEVER, you don't need to do that to the person marking down the items, because we will get our revenge! Until I scan the item barcode and put the new clearance sticker on it, you will pay the old price! So, she was standing there with her dh talking about exactly what she was going to pick up after I marked it. So, me being me, I didn't mark anything she was talking about. When she still didn't get the hint, I went on my break! By the time I cam back, she was gone!

Moral of the story: Be nice to those at the store marking the items you want! You never know when its me and I can be one heck of a BEE ITCH!!!

I used to work for K Mart back when they had the blue light specials. Do they even do those any more? Anyway... My one boss really liked my voice and had me do all of the blue light specials around Christmas time. So that was one every 10 minutes throughout the day.

We also gave out door prizes every so often at the same time. I announced the winners for those too. So a lot of running around for me!

So this one woman who was already obnoxinous was following me around. She had this daughter named Monday. She kept shouting at Monday and also at her elderly mother who was with them. She had a deep booming voice. And she kept peering over my shoulder, trying to see what I was going to put on blue light next! She followed me around the store for hours. They were in there all day trying to win a door prize.

And then she did win a door prize. It was a box of cheap chocolates. And then she had the next to complain about the prize. She wanted some more expensive chocolates and she carried on about it until I called the store manager. And just to make her happy, he gave her the more expensive chocolates! We were all fuming about that! We were like... You knew what the prize was! Why did you enter if you didn't want it!? Not to her face of course...

I usually just walk up to the person and nicely ask if the item is going down any further..saves time and energy

I really don't see what was so rude about her waiting to get the items - at least the store would be able to sell them before they were marked down any further.

I think there are a LOT of us on this site that would do the very same thing.

Sorry to say it but I think you acted very inappropriately.

I always just ask if the stuff I want is going to get marked down. If they say it is they usually mark it down for me. One day I was going into the grocery where they actually like me, lol (they don't take coupons,lol) and as soon as I walked up to the meat section the butcher ran over and said "what meat do you want, here is the discount", and marked all the ground sirloin, chuck and round that I wanted for cheap. That was a blessing to me and I thanked him. He said "no problem, you are a great customer for years. I was going to wait awhile to mark it down to see if it sold but then saw you come in and wanted to help you out:) He is the manager and has the right to do what he wants he said. I pray and get results. I am sorry this woman upset you. I don't think she was trying to be mean or aggravating, she just wanted to get in on the deal before someone else did:)

Ok, maybe I didn't come through correctly. I could feel her breath on the back of my neck! Believe me, I understand the want and desire to get a good deal, but when you make someone feel uncomfortable trying to make sure you can grab it, thats not right.

Under other circumstances, I would have helped her! I didn't know what items were going to be marked down till I scanned them, but I knew which ones she could have had coupons for. At one point, she grabbed something right out of my hand before I had a chance to put it on the shelf! Would she have asked, I would have handed her whatever she wanted instead of making me feel like she was backing me into a corner.

We all want good deals, I respect that. But, to some of us, respecting someone's personal space can go a long way!

i would of just walked away in a maze around different isles pushing my cart and stoppping to organize stuff on the shelf...i would of made a point to lose her thru the maze and then reappear so she could see me and would have to race to try and find me...i then would of gone to the back room where she could not go.

no need to breathe down their neck while they are working...i have seen those doing your job before, i ask nicely and converse with them and then go on with my shopping...if it is something she wanted, she should of just asked nicely instead of talking about what you wanted while she stood on your heals acting like you couldnt hear her.

I do have to say, if you walk up to my checkout when I am cashiering, I will ask you right away if you have coupons and am very excited when I get people that do! (Ok, I realize that most of the checkers you get may not be as happy with coupons as I am, so if you live in my area, come see me! I promise I will do whatever I can to make your shopping trip at the "bulls-eye" a happy one, not one that you will need to rant about) I am not a coupon hater! I LOVE them!


I guess I posted this because I wanted to remind everyone from a fellow couponer, that with a lot of people (I realize not all) if you are kind and nice, you can get what you want (within reason). Just remember that those workers are people too.

Good for you OP, folks need to realize that you are doing your job and don't need someone all up in your business breathing down your neck.

I get we all want a deal, but there are better and more polite ways to go about it than staking the person who is just trying to do their job.

I guess it never would have occurred to me to follow around a store employee who was doing mark downs....
