Companies who don't recycle

I do my best to help the environment and it really erks me when companies don't recycle. I worked for a national food chain, mexican fast casual, who claims to be so environmentally conscious, yet they don't recycle. I worked for several of their locations and none of them recycled. I mentioned it to the area manager that it seemed contradictory to what the company stood for, his reply was that it was up to the landlord to provide a recycling container. I told him that I thought such a large company with a green reputation would see that it recycled. Didn't seem to matter. Silly as it seems, I use to take home as much as I could and recycle it myself but a restaurant has a lot of cardboard and such.

Now I work for another company who throws away huge amounts of plastic bags daily.

When I see this amount of waste, it makes what I recycle seem trivial but I do know that every little bit helps.

Does your company recycle? If not, can you do something to change it?

I work for a small company (12 employees) & they do not recycle. I am an avid (maybe crazy lol) recycler, so when I come into work I peak into each of our trashcans (each phone station has a small one) & pull out all the plastic, glass & cans. Some of my coworkers have gotten slightly interested, they save their recycleables for me now LOL. I've mentioned trying to start an in office system but no one seems interested. I am able to collect 4 out of 7 days before it becomes trash. Everything little bit helps.

Our office is huge and we DO recycle. We have "blue bins" at each desk, locked bins for secure recycling, and in the lobby of each building we have "dream machines" for individual recycling for "points" which can be redeemed for coupons and $ off items. We are a green company.

We recycle here and we even provide containers for customers to put their plastic bags and such in if they dont want them. Only thing I wish we did recycle was pop cans. But I cant get everyone to crush the cans and put them in a seperate container..Trash and everything else gets thrown in.

The company even rolled out this huge program nationwide for us to cut down on electric and other amenities also to help be more green.

Very disappointing that more effort isn't made by some of these businesses!!

I don't work but recycle as much as I can here at home - it drives me NUTS when the kids or Hubs don't give a rat's read about the importance of it. I am constantly picking stuff out of the trash that should have gone into recycling.

Here's something that also gets on my nerves - those BIG, glossy, mostly red Target ads that you unfold and it has 1 or 2 measly coupons on it (with very short expiration dates)!! It comes in the mail about once a month and it's SUCH a waste. I get irritated every time another one gets here.

i thought all companies had to do a certain percentage of recycling...at the minimum?

where i use to work, we had blue bins for paper (any and all) and then the union had a can recycling bin.

our city offers recycling bins for residents. i have one. but i wish they picked up more than once a month. i stuff that thing in 3 weeks. so does my neighbor. but alas i am not for sure what i will do when we move. no recycling there...might have to cart mine into a bin some where

Our trash service offers recycling too - we have 3 bins and they are usually pretty full - one with newspaper alone.

Recycling is picked up every Wednesday here in my area of town.

Our apartment complex doesn't do recycling, and I don't have room to store all of our recyclables until I take them to the center down the road, so I do minimal packaging, reuse as much as I can, and hoard stuff until DH starts complaining about the empty plastic bottles everywhere! Our neighbor does recycle metals, so I chunk all of our cans over his fence to take to the scrap yard. I also save the paper for my son's school. They make money for every ton of paper. I'm all about reuse, repurpose, recycle, and sell/give away! Nothing goes to waste at our house! I also read an article online the other day about all the things you can put into the big bins at walmart and grocery stores. It's not just their plastic bags! A lot of other stuff can go in there, too!
