Our workplace recycles, but I often see co-workers toss away plastic bottles and other things that can be recycled. How hard is it to walk down the hall and put it in the container??

@3timesoccermom- Yeah, he's pretty cool! He restored my old computer for my kids when I got my new one, and we cook out together sometimes. He and DH get along really well. It's nice to have neighbors that we like! He's the one who had the psycho girlfriend, but she's since moved back home with her family in another state. It's nice to have him back to normal! Since he lives next door, I just hang plastic bags full of cans on the fence, and he loads them up once a month. Makes my life easier!

I mentioned it to the area manager that it seemed contradictory to what the company stood for, his reply was that it was up to the landlord to provide a recycling container. I told him that I thought such a large company with a green reputation would see that it recycled. Didn't seem to matter. Silly as it seems, I use to take home as much as I could and recycle it myself but a restaurant has a lot of cardboard and such.

Now I work for another company who throws away huge amounts of plastic bags daily.

When I see this amount of waste, it makes what I recycle seem trivial but I do know that every little bit helps.

Does your company recycle? If not, can you do something to change it?
Yes. and ironically, I work for a "freebie" paper...you know the ones that deliver to nearly every house and people always (at least seem to) complain about when they want to biotch about wasting trees.
Except, our paper is a high recycled content AND all of our cardboard is recycled AND all the returns from bulk drops are recycled.
Yes, we do use plastic bags for our papers when it's raining, but if people would pick up their papers, they could reuse those bags. They work really well for picking up doggy doo.

I used to work for a relatively small company (about 30 employees) that ironically was an environmental consulting firm. We had a service for our recycled paper but no service for beverage cans, steel cans, cardboard, etc. So someone from the office took the initiative to buy containers to put in the lunch area and then would take them to a local recycling station weekly. I am not sure what happened when he left the company. Anyway, if your company would perhaps allow this, you could use several containers--one for cardboard/newsprint,paper, and one for aluminum/steel/plastic. Perhaps they may be able to provide the money for the containers. The containers we had resembled the large trash cans with the rotating lids (versus the large open bins). HTHs!

My dad is the recycle king. We have bins and everything. About once a week he hauls it all to the center around the corner. We also recycle at home too. It does make a difference.

There is no recycling in our area at all. I would have to drive over an hour to get to an area to even turn in things like aluminum cans. Soo annoying...and it's not worth the gas that you spend to recycle a couple of bags of aluminum cans either.

Where i used to live in the burbs of Kansas City..they charged $20 a month to use the recycling program and they wondered why no one used it.

We recycle at our office. Cans, plastics, paper, etc. When I'm out and about, I end up taking some things home if I'm not sure if they have recycling. For instance, we were at a hotel this weekend and I bought 3 Sunday papers while we were there. Of course there's no recycle bin anywhere around the hotel, so I took them home for our container. I like to be sure, especially if I have a lot of stuff I know can be recycled.

I would gladly pay $20 to participate in recycling if we didn't have a recycling program here. I feel I'm doing it for my kids and their kids . . . and feel horrible if I don't.
