Wow! Learning how to steal coupons not how to coupon correctly lady. I feel sorry for the people who bought the papers without coupons.
I don't think she knew the cashiers. Problem is that we have to be sooo careful nowadays before accusing somebody because the business doesn't want to be sued. It's so ridiculous the things that people get away with because companies just don't want the problems. Either that or you had a minimum wage employee who closes their eyes to things just to get through their work day. IDK

I had sanity once upon a time I promise. It was just so long agoooo that I can't remember it
.
I think sometimes employees don't want to get involved because A - they aren't making alot of money and it's not their store/ not their problem - they aren't being paid the higher price to make it their problem and B - these days, you never know which customer is going to go crazy and rob ya or what not and they don't want to find themselves in a mess.... grant it, the fact this was a woman (and I am guessing she didn't look like she might hold the store up) that B probably wasn't their concern but who knows what they were thinking.
On the rare occassion that I buy a paper in a store, I ALWAYS check. Always.
It is because of people like her, the stores around here now have the papers behind the counter. It is happening everywhere. I was at Dollar Tree getting an early edition last week and the cashier actually went through it to make sure that there weren't multiple inserts in it. When I asked why, she said that someone had gone through the entire stack of papers the week earlier and took all the coupons. At this store, the employees are hardly ever in the front, so I could see how easy that would have been. That doesn't make it right though. I had to stop at the newspaper office to pick something up and they said that they had to tell the gas stations to put the papers behind the counter so prevent coupon theft. It is really crazy.
Mom to a wonderful little boy.
We are in Central Indiana.
Wow they are treating coupons like they are drugs or something...wow just wow.
We as couponers need to stand up to these thieves for sure. Good job OP for speaking out. I too would call both the store manager and the newspaper office and complain. They may never know this is going on unless you say something. The cashier obviously did not care but the manger needs to know.

Police have had stings on people for doing this sort of thing in my area. I'd have pulled out my cell phone and taken video, then quietly called police myself. I'd have made sure to film what car she got into so the police could find her. I'd have also sent the film to Circle K corporate office. Pretty sure they'd take a dim view of it.

Any store I have ever worked at, or even know about, always tells the employees to not accuse people of theft and to not try and stop them. It's a job for loss prevention and the police. They might have cared that the woman was stealing, but by the rules of their employment were not allowed to say anything about it. Look at all the news stories of other workers trying to stop robberies and then getting fired for it.
I still can't get over the fact that people are stealing coupons now! I am glad you said something although I think you will have to probably complain to the newspaper company before anything is done!
