I believe I have found the ultimate in ultra-tacky showers invites!

I've seen some shower tackiness, let me tell you...I once received an email invite to an out of state baby shower. It specifically said that out of state "guests" could send gifts via X, Y, and Z store registries. I should add that the invites were sent to EVERYONE in the mom-to-be's email address book by the person giving the shower...I hadn't seen or spoken to this person in years. I've recently received a wedding shower invite for someone who has already been married almost a year.

That, however, is nothing compared to what I got today. I received a wall post on Facebook from a woman whose daughter lives out of state and is having her third baby girl. It stated that the grandmother was holding a baby shower for the daughter in about a week (nice to be able to plan ahead, eh?). The kicker? The daughter has no plans to come down for the shower!! So this is essentially a pregnant woman's mother sitting in her house collecting presents for her daughter.

I'll admit it...I was totally floored. I'm sure someone else has seen equal or worse. I've seen so many tasteless gift grabs in the last several months that I'm starting to turn in an anti-shower grump.

Oh wow, I can't say that I have ever seen anything tackier than that! LOL

I feel the same way - after the issues I ran into trying to throw a shower recently combined with the tackiness that seems to have become the norm - I'm not sure I ever want to be invited to another one.

Oh my! I've gotten invites from online friends for web showers. We send gifts, log into chat with video at said site, and get to watch mom open gifts in her home while we are in ours. The one I "attended" for a close friend was kind of neat.

LOL...I thought of Smee as I typed that but I didn't want to call her out :).

I think a web shower would be great, especially when family and friends are all over...but I would think the physical, actual shower (that sounds weird!) should be where the mother/bride/brother of the monkey/however they are doing showers these days is located.

I actually had a similar situation when I was pg with DD. Although she wasn't my third child-- I think it's tacky to have a shower for subsequent children unless there's been a 10+ span between kids. Or other circumstance like the previous child dying or something. But anywho....

My entire family lives in MI while I'm in FL. They wanted to have a shower, but there's no way I could get up there for it. So they had a get together for the family at my brother's house which gave them all a fun day. And everyone who came brought a greeting card containing a gift card for a store that sells baby items. And my mom packed them all up and mailed them to me. And I sent out thank you notes afterwards.

I don't think her not being there is necessarily indicative of her being a gift grabber. I do think it's a little odd for the shower to be for anyone other than family though since she won't be there herself.
