I thought the definition of a house warming was for when you moved into your first home you bought? But don't go by me. I am just an old crazy lady, just ask my kids!

I was taught you never throw a shower for yourself, nor do your nearest relatives. Meaning usually your mother and sisters do not host it. Your friends throw one for you, or occasionally a cousin or aunt. Putting any sort of mention of gifts, never mind a gimme list, in the invitations is completely inappropriate. If guests want to know where you are registered, they will discretely ask your mom or the hosts of your shower.

    Yup. Old.

I have to say, I rather like email invitations with a link to wherever the bride or mother-to-be is registered. Back in the day, shops were local, and you weren't going to find two registered with the same name usually. Even if by some chance that happened, you could tell the clerk a little about the one you were shopping for, such as shower date, wedding date, groom name, and that would sort it. Now it is large companies and the slightest misspelling means you can't find their list. I've actually seen it happen where there were two weddings with bride and groom of the same name on a major retailer's gift registry. Thankfully, they had different wedding dates, and that sorted it. But you never can tell!

I recently received in the mail information for renting a hotel room for attending a wedding I never received an invitation to. It was an old and dear friend's daughter, so I made a phone call. They swore they had sent one and apologized, saying they somehow had me on a list of having already RSVP'd, but were mistaken. Of course I said I would be there and made reservations. A month later the wedding is coming up, and I have still not received and invitation. I emailed explaining because I never received my invitation, I didn't know what time or where the wedding was. I got an email back saying it was all on the invitation.

you know the funny thing when I BOUGHT my condo I really wanted to have a little party and have people over but my money was so tight after putting literally every penny for my down payment I was worried about having enough money for food!

I wouldn't dare ask people to bring food even though I am sure they would of done it glady.

I did plan on going to this little house warming party and bringing a dish but once I got the invitation and saw the "wish list". I decided not to go since I didn't have the $$$ to purchase one of the luxurious wishes!
