    Default School Supply Lists!

OK, I know it's early, but I got DS' list for kindergarten and I thought about our annual Supply List Rant here on HCW!

His list is short and shouldn't cost more than $10. I plan on getting a wish list from his teacher and getting extras of whatever she needs.

-2 boxes of 8 count crayons
    -2 primary pencils
    -large bottle of glue
    -2 composition books
    -pencil box
    -gallon size freezer bags
    -quart size freezer bags

Interesting that there is no soap or tissues on there - I assume the school must be providing that - they never did when I taught. I ordered his backpack from LLBean last night - $30 with free shipping. I intended it to last for awhile, unlike the junk from Walmart that falls apart by Christmas.

Anyone else got their list yet?

I will spend atleaset 150.00 on school supplys for my preschool child! My first grader is going in first grade and will need tons of new school supply also. They also changed uniform policy so had to spend 300 on those for first grader. I usually spend 50 bucks for each child classroom for xtra stuff for teachers. Then I plan on buying my son new clothes from gap also. I usually spend about grand for everything for kids. Oh well that is what happens when you buy school stuff for 2 kids.

I haven't gotten my list yet.
I don't mind buying stuff for the class b/c other parents won't or can't. I do get frustrated when DD let's other kids borrow her nice pencils, erasers, etc and they don't give it back. She doesn't have a backbone. They say it's mine or take it come with them or tear it up or whatever. She doesn't get it back. I have told her just to say no. I send plenty of tissues, pencils, crayons, cap erasers to the teacher for these kids. Don't borrow DD's stuff!

I have learned one thing. Not to send more that a couple of packs a time. Save it and send it later. The stuff gets used up in the same amount of time. When DD has a cold I send her an extra box to keep with her.

Wow that's cheap! My daughter's kindergarten list was huge! It wouldn't all fit in her backpack and had to be brought over the course of two days. It included several rolls of paper towels, baby wipes and maybe even toilet paper. I can't remember. It was quite a few years ago.

This year's list is thankfully short. Black or blue and red pens, colored pencils, college rule notebook paper, one binder, three composition books, index cards, yellow highlighter. I think that was it. But we got more. I learned early on to buy two binders. One will break around Christmas time if you are lucky enough to make it last that long and it will be next to impossible to replace later in the year. We also got a pencil pouch for the notebook and a little pencil sharpener. I spent just over $100 at Staples, but that included a few things for me. So probably $80 for school supplies. But that doesn't include the composition books. They had only grades 1 and 2 at Staples. I believe last year we found the subject ones at Target but when we were there last week they were just putting out last year's leftovers.

Thankfully she chose a backpack that was on clearance. And she doesn't need a new lunchbox. Hopefully she won't need new clothes either. My parents always got me a new pair of shoes and two new dresses for school. In those days we had to wear dresses. I never got her started on thinking she needed these things. I did just buy her 5 new pairs of shoes for her birthday and I had to buy her new gym shoes towards the end of last year because her feet grew. And then because she was injured she didn't wear them much at all. So they're still good.

I do have to replace her dance shoes in a few weeks. And then of course there will be more things specific teachers will want that were not on the school supply list.

My youngest is in SpecEd, and I have to wait til I meet his teacher to get his list (about a week b4 school starts). He'll be in 3rd grade. The oldest will be in 4th grade and this is his list ~

    1 24pk Pencils *
1 Pk Wide Rule Loose Leaf Paper *
    1 Box Colored Pencils
    1 Box Crayons *
    2 Glue Sticks *
    1 Pencil Case
    1 Roll Paper Towels
    2 Boxes Tissue
    5 Book Covers
    8 Pocket Folders w/Prongs
5 Spiral Notebooks in the following Colors: Purple, Red, Blue, Green, Yellow *

Anything with a * needs to be replaced each quarter, so I actually need
    4 24pk pencils
    4 pks looseleaf paper
    4 boxes crayons
    8 Glue Sticks
20 notebooks (I have 4 blue ones left over from last year, so just need 4 each of the other colors)

The bottom of the list says "Donations of copy paper, dry erase markers, push pins, sharpies, red pens, staplers, tape or any other office/school supplies will be greatly appreciated."

This list isn't as bad as previous years..Don't need construction paper, index cards, file folders, binders, markers, composition notebooks, baby wipes, writing tablets!

I forgot about school clothes. DS will need a new pair of shoes, but I bought several identical pairs of Nikes on sale for $13 last year for him and DH - bought various sizes for DS to grow into. Hopefully there will be something in there to fit him.

I bought him several pairs of $5 shorts from Walmart because they had an elastic waist, and those are impossible for me to find. They are in uniforms here, so if shorts have belt loops the child must wear a belt...so I was intent on finding loopless shorts. School tshirts are $10 each (yeesh) and I will have to get several of those. A friend is giving us her DD's outgrown school shirts, so we will use the nicer ones for backup shirts.

Using a stitch ripper (common sewing tool- 'most anyone who does home sewing has one) you can easily remove belt loops from any pants as long as they are top-stitched on and not sewn into a seam. And even then, I could get them out of the seam and the seam stitched back up in a few minutes.

DS will be going into 7th grade. The only things on his short list are: binder, pencils, pens, notebook paper and one spiral notebook. I also have a school fee of $30.00 and then several fees for some of his classes, most are just $10.00.

DD will be going into 4th grade and she just needs the usual markers, pencils, folders, etc... I also have a $30.00 school fee for her.

I will take both kids back to school shopping in August for new shoes and clothes.
