OT civil law according to the Leviticus passage:
    Boy -7 days
    Girl birth - 14 days

What I've always heard as a possible explanation of why it is longer for a girl:
The hormonal passage from mother to baby sometimes leads to a small discharge in an infant girl.

Since the focus of impurity was on any bodily discharge (both male and female, through obviously most often focused on the female), the contact between mother and infant daughter would lead to a potential impurity for both, thus, the automatic extension for girl births just in case.

Oh how hard it is to communicate with written words only...
How different this thread would be if we were all skyping each other!

If this thread turns to a religious discussion again, it will be moved to HUTC. It is perfectly possible to say "the Duggars believe XYZ" without getting into a shooting match about religion.

sorry got in the conservation when it went off topic already I guess. Maybe we should have a separate thread discussing athetiest , christian, muslim, jew, etc. I don't think it is shooting at all, just debating, and understanding, having an open mind. Just an idea. Don't shoot me down

I feel sorry for her that she had a miscarriage. I hope she sees this as a sign and makes an effort to not get pregnant again.

I'd much rather see a child born into a loving, moral and values based home of 20+ people where their needs are provided for than one born to another welfare mother bouncing her babies from boyfriend to boyfriend.
Wow really feel the need to comment on this. First of all just because someone may be on welfare does NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT mean they don't live in a "loving, moral and value based home" You never know what situation could occur in your own life that could put you in a position to need assistance but that is NOT a reflection of the love, morals or values you are instilling in your children. I am a young Mom and although I do not get any cash assistance, but I do qualify for foodstamps which is something I need to just get by. My children do live in a loving (very loving!! I drive them crazy) moral and value based home. Although we may differ on what morals and values are. I certainly won't be teaching my kids that someones financial hardships are a reflection of their morals, values or love for their children. I know a couple twice my age with a daughter I used to babysit. They had great careers, went to church, huge house the whole 9 yards. And they were TERRIBLE parents. Absolute dog*hit parents. And if you think that the Duggars are living a "moral and value based" life because they are religous then you might want to watch the news or perhaps read a history book.....religion, like being a welfare recipient is not a reflection of that persons morality, values or how they love their children. Some people take advantage of the "system" so to speak but the "system" is set up for us to fail..... I think it's something like 40% of people getting foodstamps now. For those of you who don't know, in order to LEGALLY get foodstamps you have to have basically NO money after you pay your rent and childcare. Take it from someone who is living it....it's not a luxurious life. I got lucky this year because New England didn't really get snow. Lucky me because I can't even afford snow boots for myself. So I'm in sneakers in the snow the other day pumping the last $4 I HAVE (I don't have a bank account, it was literally the last $4 I have til Friday) into my car to take my son to school. But do I care? My kids have clothes on their back, get to go to school and I get the joy of spending my life with them so I can deal with the pain of living along the poverty line. Do my kids go to the park, the beach, play with other kids, get stories read to them every night, get all the love and attention they need? Do I teach my kids morals and values as I see fit? Such as don't judge others until you know their situation, be kind, be brave when you can, question everything, help others, do good in school, appreciate the things you DO have in life. They do and a foodstamp card or welfare has nothing to do with that.

This thread has been round and round and round and I think everyone decided that it should just "rest" for a bit. Your points are valid and I think everyone can respect that, but this particular thread has a tendency to get super charged super quick and that is not so good. That being said....ya got any thoughts on the newest episodes? I think the first one of the new season was a little odd, but I am kinda looking forward to the space camp one.

    SCRAPPY

I can't believe you revived this thread.

But, I'm in! I've been so bored lately. As you faithful readers may recall, I don't watch the Duggars anymore since I boycott TLC...but I still got lots o' opinions.
    How many days until summer?
