The bedroom thing makes perfect sense, since the family previously lived in a 3 bedroom house. The children have slept together since they were weaned, so it's doubtful they would want to give up the only way the know.

My younger sisters shared a room as long as they could remember, and they were in their mid-teens before they wanted to be separate.

Ok I posted this PAGES ago. I read through 5 pages of back and forth religion and discipline discussion. I don't fel good and it's making my head hurt!!

I enjoy a good debate and I blieve in people being able to express there opinion but I'm just wondering how long we can really go on and on about the same old thing....Fell free to keep debating. Not my buiness to make you stop BUT could someone talk with me about this?

I saw your post! I don't watch the show anymore, so I don't know. I think she was too young to be batting her eyelashes at the camera man when I watched the show...

That's the thing. They are so controlled that they don't realize they can move out whenever they want to if they are of age. No one is forcing them to stay. If I lived like that and had to be the slave and little mommy to the kids so my mom could sit on her butt all day I would be out of there the day I turned 18. I do believe in kids helping but not being your personal slave and housekeeper, child rearer. She is a baby machine and won't stop until she doesn't have anyone listening to her to do everything.

It is clear to me from the show that they did not get a very complete education. They were only taught what the parents wanted them to know and who knows how right that is? I've seen Jim Bob state things wrongly as though they were fact. Biblical things. If he's going to get that wrong then how do we know they were taught properly?

They seem clueless to the world around them and I'll bet they don't even know that 18 or 19 year olds sometimes have their own apartments, hold jobs that they chose or any of the other things young people do.

I think actually she has some very bad reflux issues...If I could put my pretend doctor pants on..I would seriously scope her. I think her upper airway needs a good looking at.

All I have left to say is this. There are too many self proclaimed Christians doing a whole lot of judging and criticising. (sorry my head hurts and it's hard to think so my spelling is off). Anyway, I've said it before but here it goes again.... who's to say what's normal? The Duggars have never professed to be perfect and admit that they are still learning as they go just like the rest of us. Oh wait, I guess we have some perfect people here because they seem to know a lot more about what's right and wrong. Oh man, that sounded really snotty I guess I'll blame that on the headache too.

I'm done defending the Duggars. I really don't care what anyone else thinks of them. And, I'm pretty sure they don't care either. I don't apologize for the way I choose to live my life and don't ask for anyone's acceptance so I won't apologize or defend their ways either.

Well I'm not a self proclaimed Christian or any other kind of Christian for that matter. But I do see here what I think is wrong. Very wrong. A very wrong way to raise children. And as I have said before... These people put themselves on TV so they are going to be judged!

Chances are they wouldn't be able to live the life they are now had they not been on TV. Jim Bob doesn't seem to do too much. Yeah they own some properties but the ones I've seen look pretty run of the mill. Not things they would get rich off of. And there is that cell phone tower but I've no clue what the pay is for that. I doubt they would be able to afford that big house, the big buses, or all of those trips they take if it were not for the perks they are getting from that show.

That Gothard guy is CRAZY. If I am to understand it correctly... Duggars have said they don't have anything to do with him. That is completely false. Gothard is the president and started ATI which you know and I know Duggars not only go to ATI they flipping speak at it and Jim Bob is plastered on the Website. When you read through Gothards philosophies which are told at ATI you realize that is exactly what Duggars are teaching their children. It makes so much more sense. The thing is the ones we would fine "really uncomfortable" ..they avoid telling us.

Before yesterday I hadn't looked up the Gothard guy, I didn't know him from Adam and he meant nothing to me. But reading up on him..I see nothing positive at all. Maybe you need to google him a bit.

This thread is not here just so that you get to defend Duggar land 24/7. It is for us to discuss them. If you don't want to participate further, then don't. But it doesn't make Gothard just disappears. If I hadn't realized the link to Gothard I wouldn't of brought him back up. But it's plain as day.

Also the links I provided were I felt reasonable toned. Anything I found that was just Bash/Hate Duggar I just backed right back out. I'm not interested in that. I wanted information..not a hate fest.

At this point I do not think i will allow my children to watch any more episodes of the Duggars. I don't think they need to watch a show about 19 children who behave because their mother put them on a blanket as a baby, luring them off and then whacking them with a ruler to teach them an aversion to not doing exactly what she wanted them to do by instilling fear in them. I feel very hoodwinked by them.

This is why I brought up the Baptist thing. They openly say they are Baptist but do not openly disclose these other things. Why? Because they know it wouldn't be widely accepted!

They get paid for speaking I"m sure.

Also I saw an episode that I think they rent out industrial type space.

They purchased the land first in Arkansas. Land out here is cheap. Then they built the home themselves. Doing as much as possible themselves. It took them quite a while to build it because they basically were paying for it as they were building it. In the mean time they were renting the cheapest place they could and cramming way too many kids in it. they had no debt either.

Oh and don't forget all the royalties from the books!

The dad controlling hairstyles kinda queaves me out too. As long as my kids aren't doing anything extreme with their hair, DH and I could care less.

If Daddy likes a certain style, he should take it up with Mommy. That said, my DH has no say in my hairstyles, as I have no say in his. If it grows outta my head, buddy...I decide what to do with it.
