Your opinion on someone bringing a gun into your house - Poll Vote

Here's the situation:

We had a cookout at my mother's house this afternoon, and one of my brother's friends had a concealed handgun on him. I have a five year old and 19 month old. The guy isn't in law enforcement...just some aggravating type that likes to feel important. There was only our family present, the friend and his girlfriend...mom lives in a very nice neighborhood where nothing has ever happened the 22 years she's lived there.

What would you do?

I, myself wouldn't care. as long as he was responsible with no anger problems. but if he had a habit of getting mad and pulling the gun I'd have had a hissy fit.

But if you had a problem with it he should have been asked to put it in the car. Then 1 off 2 things would of happened. 1. He would have blown it out of portion, acted like an a$$ and refused. (in my book that would have been a reason to get my kids outta there.) or 2. He would have apologized said, "No Problem" and taken the gun to the car.

My first thought is this -
if it was truely concealed, then how did you know he had it on him?

If your brother told you, then my opinion is that he should've asked his friend to lock it in his car where only he had the key.

I can see maybe carrying it somewhere (like the city, etc) where the need might be warrented, but at a picnic?......???

Seriously?!

I would be livid!!!! I hate guns, we have one, but I NEVER touch it. DH wants me to learn to shoot it, just in case, but I just hate them. They freak me out.

And like a pp said, if it was concealed how did you know it was there? I would have TOLD him to either leave or put it in his car OR at the very least put it up on a high shelf where the kids can't get to it!

Maybe it is because I grew up around guns, (got my first bb gun for Christmas when I was 5) but I wouldn't have a problem with it. As long as the guy was responsible.
As far as having them in my house, I have a friend that brought one with him one day, concealed also. We didn't know he had it on him, well, until we couldn't figure out why the dog wouldn't leave him alone. Turns out, he carried it everywhere, and yes, I mean everywhere. But, for some reason the dog wouldn't leave him alone, until, he got it out and laid it on the table, then she went and laid down and left him alone. I don't know if she could smell it, he used it for target practice the day before he showed up at my place. But, the next time he showed up he didn't have it with him and she just ignored him. But, either way, he is a very responsible guy, doesn't believe in kids handling guns, at least not loaded one's, without proper supervision. No, I don't mean 3 or 4 year olds either, I mean like 10 or 12 year olds.
Either way, IMHO as long as a person has respect for them and is responsible, it is ok to have one.

Outside of law enforcement or military.

There would be zero reason it needs to go into my house...they can lock it up in there car. I would be less worried about my kids getting it, more worried that there would be some altercation and someone would be shot.

I knew he had it because my brother asked if he had it, then asked him to lock it up in his car and the guy had a temper tantrum over it. He was very angry that my brother let anyone know that he even had it. I was very angry that he would bring it in without anyone knowing.

I'm all for gun rights and I'll be the first one to defend it but nobody better be CCW at a party of mine.

I would have asked him very politely to put it in his car. I hate guns BTW.
