My elderly dad and i were talking about this a couple weeks ago. We had a cousin (who was known for being a hot head) who came into my parent's home with a sidearm. My dad, in his very dry, matter-of-fact voice, told him, "You don't need that in here. Go put it in your car." The cousin obliged.![]()
We are a gun owning family. My dad is an avid hunter. I was raised around guns, learned how to shoot young, had a gun safety course when 10 (at school no less). And, most of my family have their concealed carry license.
But, BIG BUT, I would never presume to take my gun into someone's home without their expressed permission. ....Just like I would never take my 100 pound akita into someone's home without them saying the dog was welcome. It is just not nice. Some people like Dogs, some don't. Some people like guns, some don't. If I have my weapon with me, I typically leave it locked up in my vehicle.
So, if I had a guest who revealed that they were carrying a gun, I would politely ask them to lock it in their car. And, they would politely oblige.![]()
