OK so it won't let me edit and it posted on its own (stupid laptop).

I live way in the country and having weapons on your person and/or in your vehicle isn't that big of a deal for the most part. Most of the people I know carry and I'm fine with that. Most of the people we know have targets in their backyards so it isn't a big deal that at some get-togethers there are enough weapons for a small army. Weapons are always safely stowed under lock and key in the family's gun safe/cabinet prior to any drinking. To get access to your weapons you either stay sober or come and get them the next day.

OH, on the poll I chose "compare guns" cuz if I had to show him old bessy, he'd be on his way out the door.

My elderly dad and i were talking about this a couple weeks ago. We had a cousin (who was known for being a hot head) who came into my parent's home with a sidearm. My dad, in his very dry, matter-of-fact voice, told him, "You don't need that in here. Go put it in your car." The cousin obliged.

We are a gun owning family. My dad is an avid hunter. I was raised around guns, learned how to shoot young, had a gun safety course when 10 (at school no less). And, most of my family have their concealed carry license.

But, BIG BUT, I would never presume to take my gun into someone's home without their expressed permission. ....Just like I would never take my 100 pound akita into someone's home without them saying the dog was welcome. It is just not nice. Some people like Dogs, some don't. Some people like guns, some don't. If I have my weapon with me, I typically leave it locked up in my vehicle.

So, if I had a guest who revealed that they were carrying a gun, I would politely ask them to lock it in their car. And, they would politely oblige.

The guy isn't in law enforcement...just some aggravating type that likes to feel important. There was only our family present, the friend and his girlfriend...mom lives in a very nice neighborhood where nothing has ever happened the 22 years she's lived there.

    What would you do?
I would be within my rights to order him off my property.

And I'm sure gun rights activists would disagree with my doing so. But who cares? My house, my rules!

Hey, 'tis the season and I'm feeling crafty-- time to make some brightly colored festive lighted signs that explicitly prohibit swinging baseball bats, pork n' beans, lighting farts, knife fights, and guns in the house. Because apparently you can't ban things from your house without a sign. Might as well make it cheery!

We used to not keep our guns loaded but now we do. Long story but I asked the police and they recommended it. I have 3 of them loaded, 2 handguns and 1 rifle and ready to go and the police said we have the right to kill if at all necessary. Of course we would never want to do that but if we had to we wouldn't think twice about it. Our kids are getting older and we taught them to respect guns from an early age. Do I like it, no but it is better than nothing.

A gun owner should never, ever , enter someone else's home or yard with a weapon without clearing it beforehand. I have nothing against fire arms. but if someone showed up at MY house with one without having checked with me first, they would be out the door to go lock it up in the car or at home. and would get a good dressing down for disrespecting my house and home. just my opinion

I agree I would not tolerate someone coming into my home with their loaded gun. I keep 3 loaded for the time being because of some circumstances but my kids respect guns. They are older though. But for someone to show up with theirs is out of the question.

Growing up I had bad experiences with guns. One of my stepbrothers had the gun out and called the police on himself and said that if the police didn't get there before his dad did he would kill him. My Mom and my sister and I came home to a huge swat team surrounding the inside of our house and the cars everywhere in our driveway, yard and street. Talk about scared. This was when cell phones were just coming out, actually they were HUGE car phones that cost $1 per minute to use. We didn't have one of those, lol Thank God nothing bad happened that day.
We knew someone years ago that had a gun and killed himself in front of his father. I was told he told his father that this is what I think of you and pulled the trigger at the kitchen table. He was around 45 or so and his Dad was 70. I can't believe his Dad didn't die experiencing that. That was so sad. So I know guns are bad in a lot of ways but I own them in the hopes of protecting my family if the need arises. I don't think God would be mad at me either because I am protecting my family.
    Please pray for my family.

First of all, let me apologize for not reading the entire thread. If someone brought a gun into my house, I would say, "You show me yours and I'll show you mine." See who backs down first. That said, I don't have children, so, I'm the only one in danger if things go bad. My husband is a convicted felon and I keep mine under lock and key at all times. He's not allowed to be around anyone with a weapon. I am actively trying to sell mine for a decent price. I purchased it in 1978 when I was a deputy sheriff. I don't feel like I should give it away, price be damned. I would like to relieve myself of it, though. It is doing me no good in a safe. Were we to have a problem, there's no way I could get the key and get it out in time. It's useless. You know, there are cops who spend their entire career in law enforcement and never use their weapon in the line of duty. I actually do, on some level, fear people who apply for a concealed weapon permit. What are they expecting in their lives?
