When someone does something nice for you you didnt ask for

It wasnt the movies it was the theatre. I decided to go and my husband was very happy so I figured it wasnt such a big deal. I bundled up and went. I have never been to the theatre and I was very dissapointed to hear people near me talking on their phones, going in and out, and talking. I was talking about having no make up because its the theatre and I assume you are supposed to dress nicely. I did see one other person with jeans on.

Well the real theatre is a bit different. I guess I would have probably been a little bit hesitant too cause I would also think you need to look a little nice for that as well. But I still would have gone and I'm glad you did too. It sounds like it wasn't a "hoity toity" kind of theatre anyway so I'm sure no one even noticed you weren't all dolled up.
And I agree with 3timesoccermom that you should take your husband's dismissal of your need for makeup as a great compliment! Mine would definitely tell me if he thought I needed makeup
Sorry some peopl were being so rude during the show though...even at the movies I don't usually hear anyone talking on their cell so it's weird they would be doing it at the theatre.

Well, you can tell him his engine purrs like a sweet kitten, but his timing is off!

To really surprise you he should also have planned out everything that needs to be done with the kids, so you don't go have fun just to come back and have more work to do.

I think you need to communicate this to him.

And he could also surprise you with a days notice...Like: "Friday Mom is picking up the kids after school and helping them with their home work, and when I get home from work we're going to go out to the theater. Here's a $40 GC to JC Penneys so you can buy a new outfit."

I dunno...I think its sweet that he surprised you. There have been times that I did not feel like going anywhere but I knew it would make DH happy so I went and we ended up having a good time.

I just bought DH tickets to the Tim Mcgraw concert and I am going to surprise him for his birthday. I would be hurt it he acted like he didn't want to go or it was a hassle but I know he won't. He will be very appreciative so that is why I did it

Sometimes people that are very close to you see something that you may not. You had a lot of "to do" things, maybe he saw that and wanted to have some "me time". Although it was not in your plans, you have a husband that saw an opportunity to give you something he thought you may need. His heart was in the right place. In our day to day lives as women we pile the responsibilities on. If we don't take care of it no one will. You have someone in your life that also saw someone that needed something. The gesture in my opinion was the true gift. In this situation

In this situation its kind of like when they are in the mood and you aren't. If you go ahead and enjoy yourself, you find out that mind blowing sex sometimes happens when you least expect it!
