Default Not sure what to do. Speeding ticket issue

Several months ago I got a speeding ticket. I have never been ticketed before so I was given the option of taking a class in order to prevent this ticket from being on my driving record. I didnt take the class yet because of Christmas and needing money for other things. I could have set money aside if I really tried but I guess I didnt. So now the date is fast approaching. In order to meet the terms the judge gave me I have two choices

    1. Take a class this week the 4th and 5th and make sure I get the info to the court by the 11th
    2. Take a class saturday the 8th all day and hope the paperwork gets to the court by the 11th
I did not know the completion certificate is mailed to me. I assumed I would recive it at the class.

Here is the problem. My husband has something at work he has been looking forward to. He works very hard and many of those who work under him appreciate his managing style. Tomorrow night is an appreciation event for those employees who were nominated for this particular quarter. He wants to go because his boss will say some words about him, ect.. The event is tomorrow which is the day of the classes. He suggested that I just pay the fine because having the ticket on my record isnt that bad. He also said I had enough time to get it taken care of. There is no one available to babysit all of the children that is why its one or the other.

I would try to find someone to babysit--seriously, call everyone you know and if they can't do it ask them for names of people they may know. Even if you have to offer to pay the babysitter extra well it's probably going to be cheaper than paying the ticket and then paying higher insurance rates when the ticket goes on your record.

I would probably take the class, it will save money in the long run and your husband needs to understand that he needs to go to this one without you. There will be other events that he will be honored so it's not like it will be the last one.

Please understand that this is coming from someone that's been married 25 years in June and has been there done that. LOL The ticket will end up costing you for at least 3 years if you let it hit your record.

Yep I took the class years ago and it didn't show up on my record. Insurance is expensive enough as it is for me anyways.
I had sanity once upon a time I promise . It was just so long agoooo that I can't remember it.

you will have to make the choice that you want. if your husband really wants to attend this appreciation dinner and you can not find a babysitter, i would just pay it myself.

or you could take the chance and go saturday and take the class. what paper work are you wanting to get to the judge by the 11th? you have to sign up for the class dont you or is it free? ours locally you have to sign up 30 days in advance to take it or you are out of luck. and once you sign up and pay, and are shown in attendance, that paper work is given to the judge. if this is not what your is like, then i would ask for some sort of proof you were there and then make sure the judge gets it.

It sounds like the event is really important to him. I can see his position as far as saying there was adequate time to get it taken care of before now. I'd probably suck it up and pay the ticket and consider any potential negative consequence a result of my own procrastination (which is something I can definitely relate to). I don't even think I'd do the all day Saturday class, but I base that opinion on how things run here. If it's an all day class, it would likely be Monday at the very earliest before the paperwork went out, and the chances of it getting there by the next day are slim to none, especially considering that our mail frequently comes late afternoon/early evening-- too late to do anything with it. If you can reasonably expect to get the paperwork and get there in time, go for it. If it's a matter of having to choose one over the other, and the event matters that much to your husband, I don't think he should have to miss it. I kind of see it as the sacrifice should be made by the person who made the mistake. It's not so much a punishment as a natural consequence. I'm sorry. Good luck.

You can take the 6-hour class online for $25 at defensivedriving [dot] com and have the certificate mailed to you overnight which still lets you go to your husband's event. The class lets you take breaks, so you won't have to sit for 6 hours straight. Do you have all the other paperwork in order, specifically the copy of your driving record? You can order it online and print it out immediately if the county you are in requires it for ticket dismissal.

I personally think your husband is more important than any amount of money. And I hope you do as well. I do have to agree with your DH. This wasn't his doing, so he shouldn't be punished. I know that seems harsh, but it's just my opinion on the matter.

I really have to commend you on giving a more than fair story. You didn't lean it to make you look like it was a big mistake or make excuses for not getting it done. I think you were half way to making the right decision when you wrote it.

You sure do sound like you've had experience in speeding tickets, girl.

It's been awhile for me. They didn't have such classes the last time I got one. If she can do this, that would rock!
