bottled water (tap water is fine with me, I fill up my reusable bottle, and it's much better for the environment)
pre-cut fruits and veggies (the cost is outrageous... just buy the whole fruit and cut it up yourself)
new books (library or used books are much less expensive)

Nothing. Its their money, and their business, so what if they place value on something differently than you do. My money, my business. If it buys a new car, designer clothes "even if no one else knows its designer," purses, shoes, expensive sunglasses, so what? People on this site don't like being judged negatively for their choices to coupon or being "frugal" or "cheap," so it really should be a two way street to live and let live, and stop criticizing.
That's pretty much how I feel. We have always bought new cars (gasp) except for my Blazer several years ago and it was in the shop all the time (it was only 2 years old). I'm sure people may feel that we overspend on certain things but we are also frugal on other things. I really do not care how others spend their money because its their money not mine.
My dad is one of those that doesn't use coupons, or hit sales, or stockpile, and it drives me nuts! He's recently disabled, unemployed, and his settlement ran out in August. My stepmom recently lost the part time job that was the only thing she could find, and now they're living on food stamps and my dad's unemployment. They go grocery shopping at least four times a week. My dad says it's because he wants everything to be fresh. Really? I could feed all six of us for half of what they spend all month! Plus, cigarettes are expensive, and they both chain smoke. Real good for dad's emphysema.
If you think I'm saying people are ridiculous for buying new cars then I apologize but you are mistaken. I am saying the price of new vehicles is ridiculous. This is a big topic in our house right now because someone hit my husband's truck Saturday night and totaled it and we are now looking at replacing it.

I agree about the price. New cars are very expensive. I know alot of people do not agree with buying new cars. My parents always bought new. DH's parents always bought used. I remember when DH and I were dating and we had to take my car half the time because his car was always in the shop. He didn't have a junker either. He had a Nissan Sentra that was only a few years old. To us it just makes more sense to buy a new car that (hopefully) has less problems than a used.
When we bought a Blazer a few years ago we had to get a new transmission and it was in the shop for several other things all when it only had about 38,000 miles on it.
Right now we have a Tahoe and a Honda Civic. So far no problems *fingers crossed*. One has 50,000 miles and the other 40,000.
Anything on an informercial or made for TV commercial. For only 3 easy payments of 59.95 plus shipping and handling!!!The made for TV stuff is going to end up in every store on the planet if you wait a couple of weeks. The infomercial stuff, most of it is just ridiculous and it may end up at Dollar Tree next year, too.
I'm also not a big fan of QVC or HSN, but mostly it is the shipping and handling that costs almost as much as the item you are buying. The only thing I ever even watch on the shopping channels is scrapbooking. Knowing I can get by with 50% off stuff at Hobby Lobby has always prevented a purchase.
