Was the Season Finale the episode where they took him to the airport to go to Missouri and his suitcase had the colorful Goo stuck all over it?

This thread has been very interesting to read. I do have a different perspective to add... I live near this family and have friends that live on the same cul du sac as this family.

I am going to say that while I don't agree with how certain things were done/ decision being made (starbucks being the big one), keep in mind this is a TV show... Things were done for maximum reactions/ entertainment purposes, after all if it was a snoozer would anyone watch???? Did they spend 350 on dinner during the filming of this show... NO, that was an example of what life was PRIOR to their downfall.

I agree with several posters when you make a lot of $$ it is easy to loose perspective and become complacent with finances. They are a prime example of this. Yes the more you have the farther and harder you fall, and they will be the first to tell it literally happened overnight.... I believe it I have watched the construction industry here in Phoenix/Anthem implode. Many of my friends and their families have been effected. We even had unemployment rock our family and we used food stamps too. Not my favorite day to apply for those but they were a god send for us.

I have met this family in passing on several occasions. They are nice people.... I bet if you asked Laura or Todd would they have done things differently? They would answer with a resounding YOU BET! Hindsight is such a great thing right??? The kids are very sweet teenagers I see them often when I go to my friends house playing ball in the cul du sac, they are always polite, always say hi, and careful when the younger kids around..... They have done something right as parents!

They are learning really tough lessons. I did watch all the episodes of the show. They actually got a second season.... Good for them... I guess I felt the need to defend them, like I said I have met them a couple of times, the seem like really nice people that made some really bad choices financially and now they are paying the price. This can happen to anyone.... Just felt the need to defend them. IMHO I think they are brave to put that out there for the world to see. Not sure I could have done that.... paycheck or not.

Oh yea, I forgot to mention. The filming was down May thru July maybe August 2010. In fact I go to the same Alberston's off of Carefree Highway where Coinstargate occurred. I will say not as often as Fry's and Safeway in Anthem.. Albies just does not have as good as deals

I think it just took a few episodes for the frugal mindset to set in for them. This thread died down a lot after those first couple of episodes...I think it is probably because they seemed to get better at spending less. I liked the show and the family more as the season went on. I definitely liked it more than Extreme Couponing!

Oh for sure!! They have come a long, long way. Are they perfect? no. Like I said I felt the need to defend them, and yes it did die down :). I do have a a different perspective from the standpoint that I have met on more than one time. The first time I met them was before filming started on the show, a neighbor has a fire pit we were just sitting around talking. I remember them expressing being nervous... Who can blame them?

I also watched my parents loose everything as well in the real estate collapse... The fall was fast, hard, and dramatic. They were in denial for a long time.... kinda buried their head in the sand... I would venture this same thing happened with the Bruce's... In my parent's situation, their real estate investments were always a source of contention between us, with my financial background I told them to diversify their investments. I had lived in the Phoenix area much longer, I understood that the burst from a bubble like the one we had is often extreme and quick (little did I know the problem was so much bigger with the banks doing all those toxic loans). Not to mention when housing out prices 90% of the population.

None the less, once they fessed up and told me what was going on it was time for damage control. They were like pushing an elephant at first. It took some really difficult/tense/harsh discussions to get them realistic. They are still working full time to recover, which they never will.... But seeing what they went through, I can understand to a degree what the Bruce's went through...
