so is this like the tylenol recall? You submit your numbers and get a check?
does anyone know...I am sitting on 5 cans... :(
Okay,
First off, I feel really bad for people who struggle to buy formula. What are they supposed to do now?
Second, I am broke this week. I went to Publix last Friday & bought 3 cans of Similac Formula and used the last 3 Similac checks I had. DH doesn't get paid until the 1st. All we have are credit cards, which are for emergencies only (yes, I know this is an emergency).
So, Similac says to stop using the formula immediately & return for a refund. You cannot get through on their phone number and their website is all kindsa hit or miss because everyone in American and countries beyond, are hitting it trying to see if their formula is on the recall list.
What is someone to do who has NO money and NO credit cards? Luckily, I can put it on my cc & pay it off when Similac send the refund check - but sheesh!

Are all 5 of yours on the recall list? The instructions I finally got from the web say....for fastest replacement, return to place of purchase. If you want to send to Abbott, you have to either call or fill out the form on their site (good luck) and it says:
Consumer Form to Return Product to Abbott
If you have any of the recalled powder product, please stop using the product.
For reimbursement*:
- Complete the form below.
- A FedEx return label and mailer will be sent to you so that you can return the recalled product.
- You can also call 1-800-986-8850 to make arrangements for the return and replacement of the recalled powder product.
4-6 weeks for refund

I can't get on the website to check. What if they are opened? Will the store take them back?

Nice. How do I explain to the 10 month old when he wants to eat in an hour that the stores are closed and his formula has been recalled?
This has not been my day.

Honestly when the tylenol was recalled I just went to WAGS and they took all the stuff back and gave me my money back.
I might consider just going to whatever store you got it at and see if they'll take it back.

The store should have no problem taking them back. The thing I'm frustrated with is the only option (in Similac) is now going to RTF, concentrate or powder packets. My DD doesn't tolerate the liquid, so I have to get the packets - or deal with switching to Enfamil. Any of the "solutions" Similac has is more expensive.
I'm right there with ya! I have 1 bottle of the RTF (but she does not tolerate it well, of course I guess it's better than bug bits) - and about enough packets to make 2 bottles. Hopefully she won't wake up in the middle of the night!

Honestly I found most generic formula's to be more on the par of similac...in look and smell. Might be something to try??

Sorry to hear about this! I know this won't help now, but something to think about in the future...
My son is on Neocate, which can't be bought in stores. Since it's only available online, I was worried about what would happen if there was a problem (such as a recall), or if we had an earthquake, and I didn't have access to the internet to order it. So...I asked our gastroenterologist for some sample cans of OTHER BRANDS of elemental formula, and we keep 2 cans each of Nutramigen AA Lipil and Elecare, along with our own earthquake food stash. I also keep 2 huge bottled water jugs on hand too, specifically for the formula. Your peds could probably give you some samples of different brands.
I did the same thing when we were on Nutramagin...had a crazy amount stocked up...and if we had to leave for some kind of disaster...i would of brought every single last can with me. I also kept on hand all versions of it.
It is scary when you have a child who cannot have other formula
FYI the nutramigen AA lipil...I have a friend whose daughter is on it...and it's not as completely smelly disgusting as neocate or elecare.
