My main issue was the way the guy NEVER said a word BEFOREHAND about the fact that they "have to" put her on the insurance without my permission. It was the way he snuck and did it without advising me, OR even asking what type of coverage I might even want on her vehicle!! Who knows what he put on there?

I guess once I said I have another about to start driving he started salivating and licking his chops.

I despise sneaks and this reeked to me.

As soon as I possibly can I will dump them and I will be sure I tell as many people as possible about this incident.

BTW - I don't think I ever mentioned the company - it is GEICO!!! So current or future Geico customers beware! Unethical and devious methods used to (further) line their pockets.

Funny how people can see thing so differently. When Geico told me I needed to add my step-son even just for the summer even though he wasn't driving our cars I had NO problem with it and completely understood - AND it is the law where I live THE LAW. Not Geico's fault! It is my understanding that when you have a household you need to have CARS and DRIVERS insured. If you have a license you are a driver. Geico can't worry about whether you are going to 'let' those in your household drive or not they just need to make sure all are covered.

In SC, every licensed driver in the household must have insurance reguardless if they drive your cars or not or if they drive alone or not. Permited drivers do not have to be insured.

When DS got his licenses, he went on our policy. When his dad (my ex) bought him a car it was listed in his dad's name so DS went on his insurance. I called my agent (local) and just told them and they took him off. The reason listed was that he moved in with his dad even tho we, including my agent, knew he still lived with us.

He is now on our insurance because with all the discounts, it's cheaper to have him on our policy than his dads (the car is also broken and he drives our cars).

My best advice is when you're shopping around (licensed or not) don't tell them he/she is licensed or tell them he/she is on another policy. We got estimates from our new (was with another agent for 5 years and switched last year) agent before adding DS.

Sometimes you have to live and learn.

Automobile Insurance Made Easy from the Texas Department of Insurance

    Auto Insurance for Young Drivers

Parents can usually add their children to their auto policy to satisfy the state’s financial responsibility requirements. Adding a young driver to their parents’ policy can be expensive, but it’s cheaper than buying a separate auto policy.
Some policies require all drivers to be named on the policy for coverage to apply. Therefore, it’s important that you list all family members on the policy as soon as they reach driving age. If you don’t have all of the drivers in your family listed on your policy and the company learns about them later – because of an accident claim, for instance – the company may bill you for the extra premium you should have paid, deny your claim and coverage, or refuse to renew your policy in the future.
Generally, if a teenager is the principal driver of a particular automobile, the company will base the teen’s rate on that car. Otherwise, the company will assign the teenage driver to the car (usually the most expensive) in your household that produces the highest rate.

Nice that they told you first. It was the sneakiness that I despised. I was on the phone a long time and it wasn't mentioned til the end. I'm soon to be finished with Geico.

And sorry, but no, just because you have a license does not mean you are always a driver. Perhaps you were a driver when you received the license but there are plenty of circumstances where that can change.

I really don't have anything to add to this discussion, my daughter is 4. I do think it's hilarious that all the ad's on this page are for Geico!
