Awhile back - must not be now, CVS transfer coupons did have a clause about not being good on previous transferred RX. My local CVS stores have not allowed this type of switching back and forth for over a year and did refer to the wording on the coupon when I tried to transfer back and RX that had not been there in 9months. They would not allow me to use the coupon since the rule was within 1 year. All my local CVS are linked together so going to another CVS would not work.

I have a cat that is on valium, and I did a transfer one time, and then tried to transfer back, but CVS said because it was a narcotic, they couldn't take a transfer back. The next time it renewed, I just had them call it into Kmart. So I've gotten a $10 gc from Hyvee, and a $14 GC from Kmart for it. The next time it needs a refill, I'll have it called into whatever place is offering a promo, but probably won't do the transfer thing, just to save the hassle.

If the places don't want to offer a transfer coupon to someone who has had a script there before, the coupon wording needs to say A Transferred prescription that hasn't previously been filled by this location or something.

I have switched to RiteAid. It was fun to get a $25 gift card. Maybe you should consider online RX's. Try Pharmacychecker.com. Enter your med and then sort by the pill. It will blow your mind! Please note that pharmacychecker.com has the USA seal and Canadian seal to avoid bootleg drugs. I buy one drug from Costco.com for $40 cheaper every 90 days than Wal-Mart. My others come from Canada for a 70% savings.

I agree! The wording needs to be there on the coupon.

This was a K-mart coupon that didn't have the wording though. This CVS has a sign in the window that they take all competitor's Rx coupons. The pharmacist did say that CVS coupons now have that wording on them. We both read the coupon line by line looking for it.

I had the opposite experience with CVS of the pharmacist being "too nice," but they were "new to them" transferred prescriptions. I got the transfer coupons because they were sent to the previous occupants (I have lived here five years!).

Anyway, there were two coupons so I figured two prescriptions. I'll admit that I didn't read first. Anyway, the pharm tech told me that it was only 1 per transaction per day and they had packaged the two scripts together, anyway. The pharmacist told her to go ahead because I would just ask them to unpackage them and pick the other one up tomorrow. Smart woman!

But I don't really like bouncing them everywhere. I bounced one all over the place, and it finally landed back at Walgreen's, my favorite pharmacy even without transfer coupons. I ran out of refills and they called the doctor to renew it. It was for eyedrops, but Rite Aid had mixed up doctors so they called my ob-gyn who refused to renew it.

I'm hoping to get a "please come back" from Walgreens, which is usually a $25 check that the pharmacy has to endorse. I'm not going to bounce anywhere for $10. It's a headache remembering where these eyedrops are because the pharmacy's name is on the box that you take them out of. You have to hang on to the box for a month.

Yes, it would qualify. As long as it is a RX written by a doctor and filled by the pharmacy it is a "prescription". Also, fyi...check out the forum Hot Prescription Deals for a $5 rebate on epipens.

I have 2 scripts I get filled each month. I have one at Kroger and one at CVS each month and then transfer/swap them the next month. So, basically, I can get two $25 each month from CVS and sometimes I can get a $20 or $25 at Kroger too. I'm with OP, there's nothing in the CVS policy that precludes "previously transferred prescriptions" and generally nothing is written on the coupons about that either. It's extremely unfair for a pharmacist to make up his own rules that clearly don't follow the coupon wording or CVS rules. If I am following their rules, they should honor the coupon and issue the gift card.

CVS and Wags both offer free after ecb or rr items each week. Do they intend on only offering those to people buying other items....no, but they hope people will buy more than the free stuff during their visit. But they can't just deny someone business because they're only coming in for the FAECB or FARR items.

I don't transfer back and forth for 2 reasons:

    1) It's a hassle for those working in the pharmacy. A pharmacist must get involved in a transfer, and it takes his/her time away from filling prescriptions properly.
    2) Possible drug interactions and even OTC/prescription interactions can be carefully monitored when everything is at one pharmacy.

There is also the convenience factor. I don't need to drive all over town to 4 stores to "make" $25/$10/whatever.

I have ocasionally switched mine to a different pharmacy (we're talking twice in 5 years), but the last time had nothing to do with earning money. Kroger violated my HIPAA rights by giving my medication and personal information to someone with a similar name because Kroger never verified a 2nd piece of info like a birthdate like they are supposed to (the OCR found in my favor in the HIPAA complaint) I switched to a different store that happened to have a promo at the time as luck would have it.

Sorry, but other than the fact that the wording on the coupon needs to be changed, I'm siding with the store on this one. They're there to fill your scripts; not be a cash cow and spend all day on the phone/fax tranferring prescriptions. I want my pharmacy staff to be focused on filling prescriptions without errors.
