Pretty much all of my dh's family sell this product, so it's no good talking to any of them about it. Dh got into a fight with them last year when they were trying to push the product on me, after I had cancer surgery, because I gained weight. They told us that statistics showed that people who gained weight during cancer treatment were more likely to have recurance. That is the kind of people they are, and one reason why I'm happy we don't live anywhere near them.

My sil is now ignoring me on FB regarding this. I'm not comfortable turning her in for child porn. The state they're in would list them as sex offenders.

Dh is a nurse and told them the same thing that AmyRD said, supposedly they're doing this under doctor supervision. I commented about body issues, confidence, etc. and received a response of "he'll thank us when he's 16 and not obese".

That is the stupidest thing I have every heard about weight and cancer!! Those who lose weight during cancer treatment have a really high mortality rate and spend more time in the hospital and in turn the cancer treatment is prolonged. Weight loss and cancer go hand in hand and lead to malnutrition and one of the biggest obstacles in cancer treatment is to prevent weight loss!! GAINING weight during cancer treatment is a GOOD thing! The person is most likely nourished and has adequate calories, protein and other nutrients to fight off the cancer and withstand cancer treatment. She is totally off her rocker if she honestly thinks that! I would love to see what crazy research she has on this because that is the biggest load of crap I have every heard.

Sorry, I used to work on a cancer unit so I am very sympathetic and versed on treatment issues. Good for you for beating cancer and coming out of it like you did. She sounds like a toxic person and I am glad for your sake you are far from her. Too bad her son wasn't far from her too because she is really going to ruin his health and self esteem.

I feel bad for you in this situation how difficult it is.....

This is totally insane and wrong. Does she take this product herself? Is this product approved by the FDA? I just remember that my stepmom took something that was recalled the by the FDA~Fin-Fin? I just can't imagine promoting a business using a child as a guinea pig.
I had sanity once upon a time I promise . It was just so long agoooo that I can't remember it.

I would have to agree with everyone, someone for sure is not working with all of their light on. You would also think that if the wrong person seen the pic she could be charged with a crime for posting pic of an almost nake child.

This is so terrible. At the very least it is abuse. You can make an anonymous call to CPS. You don't have to mention the pictures if it makes you uncomfortable turning her in for "porn". Just telling them about the extreme diet and use of a weight loss drug on a 7 year old should be enough for them to investigate. They may turn up the pictures in their investigation anyway. If they are on her facebook and tons of people have access anyone can report her so she wouldn't necessarily know it's you.

Also on facebook you could try reporting it as an advertisement/spam. Since she is trying to advertise the product and all it might get removed.

As silly as it sounds Im most worried about him having a mother that thinks its ok to put such focus on his weight that she doesnt see the emotional & phyiscal implications involved.

I can only imagine how embarrasing it must be for him to have to strip down into his undies so his mother can take a photo of him to show his weight loss.. Im sure it must be a sensitive spot for him so it just seems cruel that shes doing this.

Oh dear, putting any child on a diet stunts their growth. Children need the nutrition to grow. No child should be put on a "DIET" , better choices...YES! This really disturbs me how a Mom chooses & depends on a pill to control her sons' eating habits instead of stepping up to the plate and doing it herself!! Grrrrrr

I believe it is spelled fen-phen. (but I am a bad speller so I could be wrong!) Lawyers are still taking lawsuits on it for causing heart valve damage YEARS after taking it. People died and it was banned in 1997. So for those who took it did not have a problem till many years later.

If the product she is using is not a prescription product then the FDA does not monitor it. Usually they fall under supplement/herbal type of thing and there is no formal agency overlooking.

I hope you MIL is ok and did not have long lasting damage. fen-phen was actually prescribed by doctors so it goes to show you that any product can be dangerous. Let alone what this mom is doing and I seriously doubt a doctor is monitoring her using it on a 7 year old.

Sorry, I would not keep my mouth shut. It would probably set him up for all sorts of issues. "My mother feels I'm this, so I must be." My mother when I was a teenager used to tell me all the time I needed to lose weight, so much so that I ended up with 2 eating disorders. At 5"2' and 110 lbs, she would still tell me I needed to. I have never gotten past these self image issues. And if he's only 7, it would probably be worse. Plus there are just so many sick people out there and you never know whos looking at these pictures. If your brother doesn't wanna say anything, you should. I'm all for eating healthy and being healthy, and rewarding him for doing so, but there's different ways to go about it.
