    Default 2010 school supply lists!!

Just thought I would kick off the back to school season :) We've had a HUTC thread just about every year about the supply lists...

Whats on yours? Do you feel its justified? Too much? Not enough? Are you buying community supplies or individual?

    LETS HEAR IT!!!!

Eh, I have never had a problem with the school supply lists. The kids and I love shopping for the supplies. In elementary they usually share supplies, I know that makes some people mad but I don't care. My son starts 6th grade so he needs a TI 83 calculator and goggles along with other stuff. I got all their stuff on sale so we are all set

    LOL....every year!

I'm not buying supplies this year (he goes to K next year - sniff), but they standardized them a year or two back. There is a district approved list, and nothing else can be required. It might be $10 worth of stuff, but there will still be plenty of people squawking at orientation that they can't afford it.

(Now the cigarettes, the $2 Mountain Dew from the convenience store and the rented rims on the truck....that's important. Where's my free backpack of school supplies, teacher????)

Not gonna highjack the thread, but you got it! Except you forgot the body piercing and tattoos.

My boys are a college graduate, college freshman, and a high school freshman, so there really isn't a standard list-just what they decide they need.

Of course, college supplies (bedding etc) haven't been cheap.

We're the same way. I LOVE school supply shopping... and don't really care what or how much they ask for.
I *do* understand that in this economy, budgets are tight for some parents... but they are for the schools and teachers, too.

We had a lady on a Atlanta tv complaining about that her son didn't get his free supplies/bookbag this year. Her hair had been done and she had acrylic nails......oh darn.

We spend around $55-75 for my 2nd grader. I write his name on EVERYTHING that I send in. I always send in extra packs of crayons, glue, scissors for those that NEVER send in anything. I also send in extra items for the teacher such as anti-bacterial soap and stuff.

Does anyone else have to pay book fees ? I am talking for public schools. Here in Iowa they can charge book fees. This year for high school it is $85, and they usually charge a $25 transportation fee also, but quit that this year. The transportation fee is only for students in sports or activities. It wasn't horrible this year since we only have our grandaughter left in school, but it use to cost us several hundred dollars every year to get the kids registered every year.

In my defense, I will only bid human beings in the auction forum if it's a MM.

Sorry, didn't mean to say every year twice.

This is our first year at this school (just moved here) and I was shocked when I saw the school supply list. We had to get 4 packages, per child, of everything crayons, pencils, markers, colored pencils, paper, etc. Thankfully we were able to "recycle" stuff from last year, pencil boxes, pencils, paper, binders, bookbags and I shopped deals and used coupons.
Honestly, I don't mind stuff being communal, it was like that at the other schools. But I think 4 of everything is a bit over the top. I know that our community is mostly military so the effects of the economy is not as bad as in other places, however, I have also learned (from experience) that a lot in the military aren't the brightest when it comes to money matters.

We did in Kansas because they used workbooks and the kids got to keep them at the end of the year. It was $40 per child. They haven't said anything about that here.
