Basically the Brown vs Board of Education decision effects so much in our public school system now days. And that decision didn't really play into disabled going to school in appopriate settings...until several decades later....more decisions, more rulings, more precedent. All these influence greatly how things are done at our public schools...in various ways.

Once you get basically into the law of it...you see how much these big court decisions affect so many other various situations..that are similar but not necessarily exactly the same.

The courts...in a way...basically see those that are coming from extreme poverty...that they already have things stacked against them. Where do you think they never see any disappointment or don't get to do things??? How many times when my husband has been unemployed have I had to tell my daughter "we can't afford that", "we can't go there because we don't have the money" Of course she has seen and felt disappointment and didn't get to do things that all her other little friends did. But the schools have felt...in part by actual evidence that it is not helpful for these children to see this kind of thing, to be this out of place...when it comes to the public school system.

Also if you actually look at the law...it basically says we are all created equal...as in we all have equal worth...but that due to various circumstances not all children have equal situations at home...and it is the duty of society (as in us/schools/government) to bridge the gap for those children, in the public school setting, that all ready have things stacked against them.

When I asked my sister (the school teacher) why she had to make sure that every child could go on the field trip...one way or another (these were educational field trips)...she said..basically Brown vs Board of Education....she only had Caucasian children in her class...but that didn't stop that court decision from coming into play in her classroom.

We're switching to the private school and I thought that would actually increase the list. Turns out it shortened it considerably. Last year we all had to bring in a ream of paper for the public school classroom. Completely ridiculous. This year, just the usual pencils, crayons, etc.

Well thats the opposite of us! In public we did pencils, crayons, rulers. In private, i have to send it 3 reams of paper each and 4 boxes of tissues each. (and many more). And as stated previously, i hlep make the list and still b*tch about whats on it

Teachers can deduct the cost of things they purchase for their classrooms-- up to a maximum of $250 a year. I know that I spent a heck of a lot more than $250 a year on all of the miscellaneous stuff I needed for my classroom.
