Definitely fascinating!
I see a lot of similarities in those photos when I visit family in rural NC towns.
Captured: America in Color from 1939-1943
Posted Jul 26, 2010
These images, by photographers of the Farm Security Administration/Office of War Information, are some of the only color photographs taken of the effects of the Depression on America’s rural and small town populations. The photographs are the property of the Library of Congress and were included in a 2006 exhibit Bound for Glory: America in Color.
Captured: America in Color from 1939-1943 – Plog Photo Blog
Why on HUTC?
Cause the very reason for these to appear on this blog is a reminder of the great depression...and seeing it in color...may be a better reminder of what it was like...since most of us...were not born then.
but
Some of the comments
My favorite
The one thing that many of the people have in these pictures are one thing many Americans today don’t have. JOBS
Good crap are we that ignorant of the great depression??. 1938 unemployment was 19%. 1939 17%. 1940 was was 14.6%. Now 1942 was down to 4.2% cause of WWII. You draft all the men...put the woman into their jobs..and start shipping the men home in body bags...unemployment problem solved
....but I'm fairly certain....I'd rather be in our situation now...then in there situation then.
I also do chuckle at all the comments about how America is no longer like this.....well they obviously need to go to rural America...and they may still see it....my rural town hasn't really changed that much...and some of the less populated towns are even more like these photo's.

Love the pictures!!
You're right. With the exception of the clothing and vehicles, my area looks very similar.
I love the pics
Thank you.
6/26/2010 I LOST the best part of me.
There are many forms of death - you can die physically, you can die mentally and you can sadly die from loneliness.
The pictures are great! Wow. Color puts a more human face on it! I could not see the comments for some reason.
