HOT What was Obama thinking today?

I can't believe Mr.Obama fired a career military officer for speaking the truth. He is a wimp. This General has devoted his life to a way of life and what he's been trained to do, and to have to answer to and take orders from someone who hasn't served a day in his life is insane. I know that there is protocol but my goodness the truth hurts sometimes and if this our Presidents way of proving to the world he's not a wimp he once again blew it in my eyes.

Mind you I'm not really hutC abut this either way...nor even have much info on it...but turned to my home newspaper which is slathering with conservative bias.

This is what I have gathered....

Article 88 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice says: “Any commissioned officer who uses contemptuous words against the President, the Vice President, Congress, the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of a military department, the Secretary of Transportation, or the Governor or legislature of any State, Territory, Commonwealth, or possession in which he is on duty or present shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.”

    McChrystal deliberately violated Article 88

He may have been telling the truth...or he may have been telling how he felt...in the end it doesn't matter. President Obama deserves to not be mutinized by the leaders he has appointed. If they don't like the job...quit...but while they are serving...they have to bite there tongue...period.

My question is why in the world would General McCrystal allow Rolling Stone to follow him for interviews? He had to imagine it would not turn out good.

Yeah, I didn't really understand how he was doing an interview with Rolling Stone. Don't get that one.

That said, UCMJ trumps civilian law. And as a "career military officer" he should've known better. He got what he deserved. There is nothing wrong with disagreeing with policy, however he could have gone about it in a different way.

BTW OP, did you read the interview in RS?

Absolutely agreed. Regardless of military law, most civilians would be fired for blatant insubordination of your "big, big, big boss", particularly in a public forum.

I did read the RS interview and I have to say that despite anyone's personal feelings about Mr. Obama, I seriously doubt that the outcome would have been any different shoudl this have occurred with any other president.

Very bad form on the Generals part...I thought I heard alcohol was involved? Come on, that was just idiodic! RS is a known liberal rag, how did he think that could come out good? If you are dumb enough to do that, I'm not too confident in your ability to run a war!

Deb, you've got a page full of conservatives that thinks this dude should be canned. It's not lookin' good, honey.

I'm an extremely right religious Independent Conservative & have a tin foil stockpile to prove it. I believe the general should go, no questions asked. The military sets high standards against such & rightfully so. Truth or not, it was a pitiful thing to do.

What I thought was the worst part is that he is commanding a WAR we are still fighting!

I'm sure many terrorists got a good chuckle of the whole thing... General vs Presidential Administration... acting like Lindsay Lohan...

I don't think that it was wise where national security was concerned...

I have questioned "What was he thinking?" everyday since he took office. Our country may never recover from Obama's administration......bad choice America.
