but clearly, some parents CAN'T raise their own children, should the school administration just turn their back on the child and pretend that Johnny doesn't come to school hungry, dirty or bruised?
the stand to ban the toy soldier with the gun makes sense to me in part because it portrays the use of a weapon.......the zero tolerance rule applies because it is the display of the use of a weapon.......yes, the rule is somewhat ridiculous but it is borne of a ridiculous situation......again not a perfect world.......:shrug7:
You make a good point. I don't think any type of military recruiting belongs in a high school. When recruiters began to call our home phone when our son was in high school I considered it a violation of privacy and told every recruiter that called that they did not have my parental permission to contact my son. The year after our son graduated they changed the rules in our county that the recruiters must have parental permission to contact your child. It was a form that was sent home in the beginning of the school year with the annual pile of school information and policies.
Yes the military is an honorable profession but the toy soldiers were not banned as the child was still permitted to display the one with binoculars. If the school had allowed it I wonder would some parent point out that they were not following their own policy of zero tolerance?
I saw in this morning's paper that he's been awarded a medal for his patriotic efforts by the retired head of the RI National Guard.
The school district is also looking at making a change to their no-guns policy because of this: Article here
