Default Teaching kids to tie their shoes

Ugh...it's so frustrating to teach kids how to tie their shoes. It's frustrating to teach them and it's frustrating for them to learn. Not to mention it takes so much time. I'm officially teaching my kids a new way to tie their shoes.

Ugg, I am going through this with two kids right now. They wore to many shoes with velcro through out the years.

This is cool, I will have to try it but I'm not sure if it is going to be so simple. We will try tonight. Thanks

When my son was 5 years old we decided he was getting too old to not know how to tie his shoes. So we sat at the table with him for 2 hours tying and retying and making him try. He learned in 2 hours because we just kept at it until he caught on. It was frustrating but the 2 hours was time worth spending because he did it by himself from that day on. My daughters learned how to tie their shoes when they were 2 1/2, but they also were fast dressers at 1 1/2. It was frustrating because they changed ALL day long, LOL

Wow... that's cool. I will have to teach DD that way. She gets frustrated dealing with things like dressing and undressing. She doesn't even try and then just announces that she can't do it. It's WAY frustrating to deal with someher sometimes.

I worked and worked and worked on tying shoes with my 7 year old. She never could quite get it and we would both end up SO frustrated.

You know who taught her to tie them? A little boy in her class. And he taught her in an hour. Sometimes, I think it just takes another kid. They speak the same language.

My son's problem isn't that he can't tie them, it's that he can't seem to keep them tied - lol - we were in the grocery store a few weeks ago and he had to stop at least 8 times to retie them!!

We're back to slip ons now, he likes them better anyway - lol!

    I admit...

I didn't/don't have the patience to teach my kids this...

I handed it off to their grandparents.

I think that is cool too. If I weren't about to fall asleep I'd grab a pair of shoes and try it.

I never could tie my shoes the "right way." I finally learned using the 2 bunny ear method and do it that way to this day. Due to this fact, I had my parents teach DD and DH will teach the boys. Do you know how embarrassing it is...LOL!
