Wow. And it's not like they have they have "I wasn't alive" excuse. I remember watching the Berlin Wall fall on TV while sitting in my 11th grade child development class. It's not a huge stretch to figure out what year that was. Was this a good cross-section of people, I wonder, or just the ones that had "DUH" stamped on their forehead?

t was tragic, don't get me wrong. But of all the important "need to remember" things in *my* life, the YEAR is not something I'm going to waste brain cells on. The act is enough.

My DH remembers the day--17th--of our anniversary EVERY MONTH, but he never can remember the year. I, on the other hand, remember the year, but I have to think about the day. (We both alwaya remember the month.) Different people remember different things. Doesn't make them stupid or unable to vote wisely.

And neither do video games fry one's brains. I just asked my youngest DS, 17 and an AVID video game player, if he knew what year 9-11 occurred. He answered correctly, and then asked me why. I said it was because people were dissing the under-25 generation.

Ok, so my youngest DS and I just watched the video. It was just a small sampling of students passing through the San Diego job fair--not exactly an accurate representation of people under 25.

But what appalled us the most was how flippant most of the students were, laughing because they couldn't remember the year. And did you catch how when the interviewer asked one student if she cared that she couldn't remember she said, "Not really?"

My middle son and his girlfriend, both 22, are much more thoughtul and grown-up than most of the students in this video. I know without asking that they both know the year of 9-11. He's majoring in Cellular Biology and Neuroscience, and her major is International Studies, so maybe that has something to do with it. Or maybe life in San Diego is naturally more laid back? I just would like to give these kids some benefit of the doubt, if only to ease my own mind!
