Default Yes, it's true, I am complaining ONCE AGAIN about people allowing their sick kids to infect others!

Okay, so I have posted my complaints before about people bringing their out-of-school sick children to the gym where I work (in childcare) so they can work out - it just annoys me to no end.

Well, I saw something today that even beats that! I had to go to DS's school for a room-mom meeting and saw his class filing out of the room. I said hi to the kids as they passed, including his friend - we'll call him "Tommy". He was at the very back of the line, kind of shuffling along and I wondered if he was okay. This was at 2 pm this afternoon.

Fast forward to just now, I am on face book and see a post by "Tommy's" mom talking about how glad she is that her carpet isn't ruined. So I look back at her earlier posts to see what she's talking about and it turns out that, last night about 9 pm "Tommy" sicked up all over the place! And yet, he is in school today! Um, WHAT?????? Yes, I do realize that maybe it isn't a virus but just something he ate and he's not contagious. However, I don't think you can really be 100% sure of that from 9 pm last night until 7 am this morning. If my kid sicked up everywhere at 9 (and from what she said it was BAD) - I would keep him home the next day just to be sure. And yes, I also realize, not everyone is able to take off work easily but I feel like I would have to make the effort in this case!

There was a little girl that came to my son's birthday party. The party was outside and she kept wanting to come in and watch TV instead of being outside with the other kids. I made her stay outside and she threw up - I then realized she didn't feel good. She then informed me that she had been sent home from school that day for throwing up - yet her mother let her go to the birthday party.:hectic1: I called her mother and right when she got there the little girl threw up in my driveway again. Ugh - some people.

That poor kid! Sure sounds like he could have used a day at home to recuperate.

I work in an elementary school, and it really is a shame the kids that get sent when they are clearly sick. I'm sorry it's inconvenient to keep your sick child at home!

Oh, that's a huge pet peeve of mine. It's rude and inconsiderate to do. I hate when parents send or take their kids anywhere when they're sick. . . and you know darn well if the parent were sick, they'd be home in bed taking it easy.

I thought it was general consensus that if you vomit, you stay home for the next 24 hours. That's what the rule was at my house when I was a kid. :shrug7:

It is sad that parents can't take off work, though. My mom is an elementary school gym teacher and deals with sick kids all the time, but they come to school because they have no other choice.

I especially hate it when kids have pink eye or something really contagious like that. Pink eye spreads like wildfire, and I don't want your pinkeye! :hectic1:

Yup- they dope em up to go to school and then they infect other kids. My son missed 8 days last year because I would not let him go back until he was 24 hours w/o a temp or vomiting. I know it is hard for parents to miss work- but that is what you have to think of when you have kids.

While I don't agree with sending a sick kid to school I do have a problem with our district requiring a doctor's note EVERY time they are absent. They even send home a nice little letter at the beginning of the year where they inform you that 3 unexcused absences will result in the head of district security being notified and truancy charges may be pursued.

If your kid does get sick at school and the nurse sends them home they tell you to take them to the doctor and if you don't have a note it counts as an unexcused absence as well. Makes you wonder about the nurses qualifications if she can't even decide a kid is too sick to be there!

I'm their mom and I think I'm qualified to decide if they are sick or not. If one of the girls throws up the night before I can either keep them home and risk trouble or I have to drag them to the doctor and pay the co-pay. Talk about a pain in the butt!

Years ago when my oldest (now 25) was about 5 or 6, I had a "blind" date. We were invited to the guy's house for a barbeque. He also had a son around the same age. We get there and have hung around for a while, but my son didn't seem like he really wanted to play or anything. I asked him if he felt alright and it wasn't till THAT moment when he said no. I felt his forehead then and he was really hot. About that time he says he doesn't feel good and as he's heading for the bathroom, throws up all the way there. Ack.

I had never met this guy before and my kid throws up all over his house on the first date. I was mortified. I tried to offer to clean up, but he more or less just told me to take my kid home. lmao I never saw him again. Imagine that. Turned out my kid had strep throat, but he hadn't given me any warning till that moment that he didn't feel good.

That doesn't excuse anyone that knows already thier kid is sick, but that was one of "those" moments that my oldest and I look back on and laugh. Even though we both felt horrible about it.

It's another reason I homeschool and keep my kids away from the general public as much as possible. We're rarely sick here.
