    HOT Annoying neighbors

Let me say that I HATE living in our subdivision. However, until the market changes we are stuck. I have lived here for 27 years... I grew up in this house. Most of our good neighbors have moved away and lots of trouble have moved in. So currently I have two families living in the house to my right. The day the first family moved in the mother was driving across the lawn and parking in the middle of the yard...followed by having a screaming fit on the phone with someone and yelling the "F" bomb all over. A few months later her sister and whole family moved in. All in all, not my fav people of all time but no major problems. Then a few months ago they started setting their trash cans out on my side of the property lines..... LOTS of trash and the cans just sit there all the time...... ICK... Not to mention that they have a 3 year old over there that NOBODY pays any attention to and he is alway in my yard playing with our toys/bikes and such and I really don't want the kid on my property unsupervised and get hurt.

On the left of me is a house that has had several families in and out. The most recent have been living there about 6 weeks. About 3 weeks ago they put up a trampoline in the front side yard (right under my bedroom window). More than once I've had to open my window at 10 p.m. and ask them to stop screaming, I have babies sleeping! I very nicely asked the mom if it was possible to move it.... seems no because of the sloping landscape. Another problem is that my little ones (5, 4 and 2) constantly want to get on it and I refuse. I have a tacky little "garden type" fence in the front yard to keep my little ones from the road because the idiots around here are dreaming they are nascar drivers. I told the mom that I'd be extending my tacky fence to make sure the little ones didn't try to wander to the trampoline. They are never out there alone, but I am human and I do blink from time to time.

So...... last week I started re-running my fence ... I tied it into my existing back yard chain link fence on the left side...ran it up that side and across the front. I skipped the drive way (duh) and put up the poles to run the right side. The right side isn't done yet. I get home w/ the kids tonight and the first woman that moved into the house on the left heads over very loudly asking me "can I ask you why you put up this gate thing". I said "you mean the fence?".... Long story short, her sister has been offended and feels that I only put the fence up as an insult to her....and they'd like me to remove it....and if not, could I at least move it so they could put the trash cans where they were......... um NO YOU IDIOTS.... It's MY PROPERTY............... I explained my reasoning and also let her know that the other side of the fence would be up this weekend. Then she starts bad-mouthing the lady on the left side of me. She goes on for a while and then goes home. Ten minutes later the mom from he left side comes over to "chat".... basically she saw the other woman talking to me and pointing at her house and wanted to know what was going on.

OMG... I OWN THIS PROPERTY.... I've checked with the zoning office and the fence is fine......... if they don't like it.... move to another rental house! I just can't believe that she had the nerve to ask me to move the fence because her little sister is insulted that I put it up after she moved in......... I can promise you this........ when the market turns and we can sell....... our next house will be in a subdivision with a stern HOA or in the middle of 50 isolated acres...... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

    ok, thanks... I feel better

wow, and i thought my new neighbors were bad. compared to what you just described, they are saints.

Do what you wish to do on your property. If they peeps put the cans on your side again, kindly move them back to their side and let them know where their property ends and yours begins.
If she has issues w/ the person on the other side of you, she should keep that to herself and not try to put you in the middle of it. Bad enough your house is smack dab between them both.

I don't blame you for not letting the kids on the trampoline, and for putting up the fence. The other neighbor needs to keep the 3 yr old out of your yard, they'd be the first b*tching if he got hurt- heaven forbid they actually *watch* their own kid though, right?

Good luck, i hope the market turns and you can find that 50 acres of serenity & solitude.

OMG, I hate neighbors. I don't know what it's like in your area, But here if you have a trampoline and your home owners insurance finds out..they cancel your policy. Maybe someone should check that out and let their Landlord know....

I can totally relate. I've been hating living here recently. We have some "rental" neighbors that are grating on my nerves. The bright side is they're only renters and hopefully won't be here forever.

After 10 pm and they are screaming...I'd call the police.

I hear ya on the rentals. I live next to one & there's several others on my block now. Right now things are good, but I have been left with a roach parade, as well as a rat infestation next door. I love my new, clean, kind neighbors that moved in a few months ago. LOVE them! I've seen some real jerks come through here though. I deserve the break.

Oh, sorry, this is about you. Here's hoping you can move soon & can annoy...errrr, I mean ignore them until you can.

We also live next to a rental - do not get me started on my neighbor (both the owner and the individuals he rents to). I know that you do not get to chose your neighbor irregardless of whether they rent or own, but it is the temporary nature of the tenants that is bothersome. We have had 4 different families in 2 years and one of them trashed the place, leaving loads of trash and attracting rodents that found their way to our home. We share a front yard and our HOA is always citing them for their half. Our current neighbor (tenant) is actually a really nice guy with 2 boys. I hope he stays, but he told me last week that he lost his job - so we shall see.

I also live next to a rental. I grew up with the owners and when their folks went back to Italy the kids kept the house and now rent it out. It has been a constant parade "drive me crazy" people. I should note, that I like peace and quiet.

The first group that lived there, the husband was a loud drunk. I actually through an alarm clock at one time at 3 in the morning when he locked himself out and was drunk.

The next bunch would leave their kimchi (korean sauerkraut) outside for all the world to smell (and it did). They would also park their cars and their guests' cars in my driveway when theirs was full. They also had a very bad roach and rat problem.

The current group isn't bad. They are pleasant and I can honestly say I wouldn't have a problem asking them for help if i was in a pickle over here. They have alot a birds and during the summer I wake up and momentarily think I'm in Costa Rica. Then I come to my senses and remember I'm in New Jersey.

It's really tough when the neighbors are not "neighbors". I miss the time of my youth--when you would chew the fat with your neighbor over your hedge.

We rent. Our neighbors all think we own the place. They say things like, "You RENT this house? I would have never guessed."

I used to wonder why but reading this thread (and a really LONG one on a different board) makes me think renters have a bad rep.
