town sends kid to fake prom

I don't know if you've been following this story or not--

HS girl is openly gay, says she's going to take lesbian girlfriend to prom. HS cancels prom.

Another prom is organized, turns out to be a fake. Everyone else was at another prom. I don't care how you feel about homosexuality, that is a really sh!tty way to treat a KID. She's still a child, and this is a horrible message to send to all children--that this is how we treat those whose beliefs are different from ours.:sad:

I think this is just cruel. Shame on the parents who were involved in this. Bad enough to cancel a prom over a girl wanting to bring a girl and wear a tux, but to send her and what it appears this community feels are other unworthy students to a fake prom. It is just CRUEL and WRONG.

How is it a "fake" prom? Sounds like it was two proms and one had more attendees than the other? The article states that parents organized the "bigger" prom. Who organized or sent the invitation to the other prom? Maybe some parents decided to hold a prom for those that are normally excluded or "unpopular" so they could enjoy the night as well. It sounds like it wasn't a school-sponsored event, so the parents have the right to organize an event so their children won't miss out, and if they choose, they can invite whoever they want. I think I'd rather hear ALL the facts to the story before assuming anything cruel.

Um it sounds like the parents organized 2 proms...one where the kids with learning disabilities and lesbian went...and one for everyone else.

No one said it was a school sponsored event...but that the parents are creeps for doing it to exclude the lesbian girl and the kids with learning disabilities.

What the parents taught there kids...is it's fine to set up a little "separate but equal" prom....gag.
