When the school originally canceled the prom, I'm sure it upset alot of students. So the parents and other adults probably decided to have a privately sponsored party. When the case went to court, it came out that the community was organizing this, so the courts probably stated that the school wouldn't have to have one since the community was already organizing one and people had already put alot of time and effort into it.
Tickets were sold and fliers were put up all around school. Constance went to purchase tickets on a Monday, and found out that ticket sales deadline had been Saturday, so she raised cane about that. People probably talked to the people sponsoring it and they feared that Constance would sue, so they wanted to withdraw their sponsorship and cancel it. Then it was decided that a prom would be held at the Country Club for all.
After all of the chaos and confusion, it was probably a matter of not letting the students and community down and both proms were held. The prom is not about just Constance. It involved students, parents, and other community members. People had an obligation to others at each venue so maybe it wasn't fair to cancel one over another. It's not a matter over parents planning a "party" on the same night as the "prom". The prom got scheduled and canceled so much that people didn't know what to do and where to have it when there was so many people and places involved, and also a court order to follow and fear of a lawsuit. All of the kids are lucky they got any prom at all with all that was involved. The courts should have just demanded the SCHOOL have one and see where it went from there.
