If the friend was at the scene, what's the problem with the police? If not, then the friend should be charged as an accessory. This may push the driver to come forward There is more than enough **** **** ******* ***** proof.

Leaving the scene of an accident alone is enough for lock up and a judge.

I got a lawyer the day after the accident and she's having a hard time just trying to get them to return her calls( she's doing everything she can to get them to pay). I've been calling the officer that's in charge of the case, i'm still waiting for him to call back. Really he has all their info so why can't he go to their place and start asking questiions find something out.

I would go over that officer's head and contact his boss. Annoy his boss enough and I am sure that will get something done. Explain to him what has happened (or not happened in this case). If you must, call and explain several times. I had an issue with our police dept. once and the officer would never call me back. After a few weeks of that nonsense, I simply called and ask for whoever it was that was in charge that day. At first they said that I can leave a message. So I did. Then every hour on the hour, I called back. After the 5th time, they put me through directly to the head of the police department. Within 24 hours, my problem was fixed. Sometimes they need a little nudge.

There are 2 issues here - one is the insurance, the other the other driver. The police don't HAVE to arrest the driver for her to be at fault. All you need is a police report. I'm sure you would like her to be arrested, but in many areas the police are backlogged and can only concentrate on higher priority crimes.

Talk about the other driver taking the term "hit and RUN" literally

Sorry, OP, couldn't resist! You don't happen to have uninsured/underinsured motors I take it? If so, it should be a no brainer for your insurance company to take care of everything, if not, then good luck(personally I will NEVER drop this coverage living in Houston)
