Default Dear Craigslist crazy lady (and her friends) IT'S NOT WIC!

My baby just turned one a couple of months ago. Today I was organizing my pantry and found four cans of Similac that were left in a case I bought at Sams.

I listed them on Craigslist (all four for $25) because I'm saving up to buy a double jogging stroller.

I put in the ad that this formula is NOT WIC. NOT. NOT. NOT. I even have the receipt to show where I bought it at SAMS and that it wasn't a WIC transaction.

I stated this no less than FOUR times in the ad.

    The emails started rolling in....

One lady even replied to my ad and then felt very good about herself when I answered her because she now had my information and could "report your lowlife, deadbeat self to the proper authorities."

And when they discover I'm NOT on WIC?

And one of the others that sent me an email said I was a "price gouger." HUH?

    Ok. Rant over. Sorry.

P.S. I deleted the ad because $25 is not worth the interaction with the crazies. I'm going to donate it and I'll find another way to save up for the stroller. LOL

Some people are just looking for something to be pissed off about. Just one particular word or phrase can launch them into their next spittle-flecked screed.

Or maybe she was a lactivist. Some of those ladies can be pretty... intense.

To clarify, I know a lot of women here are mommies so I'm not trying to start that fight up. I think breastfeeding is great and women shouldn't have to be banished to lavatories to do it... but I also understand that it's sometimes not possible.

A friend of mine was accosted by one of them during her pregnancy; some stranger in Target read her the riot act for buying formula. As if being pregnant wasn't enough to deal with, she was waiting until after she gave birth to start cancer treatment. Being called a terrible mother on top of it? I'd have been punching, no joke.

I guess it's like anything else - a few people take it to extremes and make the rest look bad.

Of course, this could have just been a random crazy/bored Internet troll.

I've sold formula before and never been accused of it being from WIC. Jeez it's not like Wic gives you enough to sell anyways LOL. Glad I missed out on the trolls attacking.

This may be a stupid question but I don't have kids or anything and never buy formula - what is WIC?

WIC stands for women, infants and children, and is a US federally funded program that helps people at or below 185% of the poverty line acquire certain types of food. The program began in 1974, and now operates in all 50 states, Guam, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, the US held Virgin Islands and the Commonwealth Islands of the Northern Marianas. It also has offices available to over 30 Native American Tribal Organizations.

Those eligible for WIC are infants and children to the age of five and pregnant women. They must be considered “at nutritional risk,” and must qualify for the program financially. It’s fairly easy to meet the first requirement if your income is low because it is harder to get foods that are nutritionally sound if you have a low income. WIC essentially disburses checks, which people use at local grocery stores to purchase certain types of food, and the organization maintains a list of the foods that can be purchased, making it different than food stamps. Food stamps will allow you to purchase any types of food (except alcohol), but WIC is much more limited in scope.

Example foods that you can purchase with WIC disbursements include milk, cheese, iron fortified cereal, infant formula, certain fruits, fruit juices, peanut butter and tuna.

    What is WIC?

The word Similac sets people on Craigslist off here. Anytime tries to sell it there are usually 10 or more posts about what terrible people they are because they're selling something they got for free. It's insane. I don't think they realize that Similac isn't exclusively a WIC formula.

WIC for us, offers Nestle Good Start. And like a previous post, they don't give you enough to sell! I had to buy extra each month. I was grateful for the 10 they give you!
You'd be surprised at the number of people who have no life and spend their whole day "trolling" CL just to pick a fight or flag a post for no reason. My DH put up a post for 20 gallon cans of stain that my FIL had leftover. He wanted $5 for each. Our post kept getting flagged. Really? What's wrong with stain?

I've heard of people who get an ad flagged off because they WANT it. My friend's brother in law was telling us that he saw some speakers he wanted but couldn't afford once. So, he wrote down the guy's phone number and then had his buddies flag the ad off so no one else would get it before his payday. Crazy huh?

I had someone flag a wanted ad for a double stroller because I rejected their offer to sell me a terribly used one for full MSRP. They said I was spam. Me and CL don't always get along.
