Default Please tell me this is still just a bunch of talk--NO mail on Saturdays??

Ok for years I have heard that the Post Office is trying to get away from Saturday mail delivery. Now I heard it might actually be happening. If so this is going to REALLY suck. I depend on that ONE day to help get coupons in time for a sale. Uggh PLEASE someone tell me this is just continued talk and NOT going to actually happen. I NEED my Saturday mail.

If this is true can we ALL stop it??

I also heard that there's a possibility of every other day during the week so I gues M W F. That would REALLY suck.

I did get mail today. So I'm hoping this is just ongoing longgggggg talks that will continue on for years and won't be implemented.

Its very likely. Mail usage has dropped BIG TIME over the last few years... other than trades, or something occasional, how many of us MAIL stuff regulary anymore? I don't. All my bills are online, except for maybe 1.
Family far away gets news and pics via email, facebook, etc...
I DO use the USPS for packages mostly...

The world is changing, and the USPS is having to keep up with the times. The only way I can think "we can all stop this" is if we swore off our modern convience's and jumped back 20 years...

I heard this too :( I mail hundreds of packages daily and need Saturdays. If Saturdays were taken away it would KILL my Monday load. If it's necessary and beneficial for postal workers then I guess I understand...

They are talking about it to save the government $$. Because of the decrease in usage of the USPS, the government is losing a lot of money, so to save them some $$, and inturn us $$ they are talking about a 5 day delivery for mail, so M-F delivery and no more saturday delivery. It hasn't been inacted yet as they are still discussing it, but it is a real possibility.

I heard that a reduction of delivery days was suggested by the Postmaster General as a way to cut costs. Email, fax, wireless, online bill paying.....people don't really use mail anymore. As the technology increases, fewer and fewer people are buying post office services; their revenues are down.

Many on this board should be thrilled. It will take less of our tax dollars, and it's a form of socialism anyway, that post office. Sorry if it hurts your couponing, that sucks.

I have also heard that they may have the post office window open as it is now on Saturday, but no home delivery.

Doesn't seem very likely to happen. The mail carriers are unionized and clearly a decrease in labor that significant is something their unions will fight over tooth and nail. The post office thinks this is their best way to reduce costs, and they payed three independent companies WAY too much money for cost reduction analysis and none of them thought reducing delivery would be a good move.... plus they have been asking for permission for a long time to do this and they always get denied. So I am not in the least bit worried!
