Default Cost of media blitz for census

Someone please help me out here. Are these commercials necessary? Are these the jobs Obama is saying he created? As far as I know its an easy process you get the form in the mail and mail it in. I dont see the need to spend the money to create these ads and play them on TV. And in my humble opinion they're pretty dumb. "Dude isnt that what the census is doing" I just dont see it as a good use of money. We do have the internet. Cant he just put up a reminder on the white house site. Or many through congress. For example I added mylocal rep as a facebook friend to see what he is doing in Washington. He could just make a post and say "Hey I'm reminding all of you to send in the census when it comes to you" I've gotta be a good steward of my households money so I think my gov should do the same.

ITA! If I see one more commercial telling me my community won't get their "fair share" of federal funding if I don't turn in my census form, my head is going to explode. The census is not for the apportionment of federal funding--it's to determine representation.

I have a different kind of rant about the census. DH took the test to work for them in early January. He scored 28 out of 28. The guy administering the test told him they would definitely be hiring him since he scored so well. Plus, they would especially get ahold of him because they were hiring people that only scored 11s! They would be calling him in February. Here it is nearly March, & no call. We think it's because he's an evil white male.

Because nobody likes to hire overqualified people.

Sounds like I'm glad we don't have TV.

I can't believe they paid to have them run during the super bowl. Imgaine how many people that $$ could have bailed out

We gave up TV a couple months ago. I don't miss it a bit. Thankfully, the only 2 shows I watch, The Office & 24, are available to watch online.

Remember $42M spent by IRS on postcards notifying people that their stimulus money is coming?
