I totally get what you're saying--that the government gives money to low income people who are going to spend it because they think that that stimulates the economy. I get that. But where did the money come from in the first place? It was either removed from the economy to start with, manufactured or borrowed. You can't build the economy in any of those ways. You're thinking short-term--like people who get a credit card and buy new stuff and think they've improved their net worth.
Well, as I've stated before, maybe you should worry about the other 99% taken out that might not get put back in. Food stamps only account for 1%.

How about this--instead of more food stamps give the money back to the people that pay the taxes so they could buy more food and other things for their family's , stimulating the economy (and most people are not "rich" and save all the money--they struggle in this economy even though they don't receive assistance)

I wasn't the one that brought up food stamps and for the record I'm not a big fan of most of the other 99% of government spending either. A little is a necessary evil, but most of the things that government spends money on are things that they shouldn't be.

Whaaaaaat? Let people keep their own money? AND let them decide how to spend or save it? That's crazy talk! You must live in the 1700's or something.

Yeah, can we say military jets that they didn't order/want? Forgot exactly what kind they are, but something big and expensive.

It would have been better on their part if they felt they needed to "bribe" the parents to take the survey, to just offer them money straight up and let the parents decide how to use it in their family's best interest.
As a friend to quite a few parents who have severely disabled children...actually an IPOD believe it or not...is one of the children's favorite toys to have. When you cannot basically move your body..or entertain yourself easily...an IPOD with music that you like...can be quite entertaining.

However...I still wouldn't of "bribed" them with IPOD's...but the struggles of parents who have severely disabled children...trying to find something to entertain them...is something most of us don't appreciate.

And Thank You for helping make my point about the food stamps (and unemployment).

Personally, I do think the government should have given out "food stamp-type" cards to all Americans instead of the bailout they did.

Yes this! However when you listen to people freaking out over "freebies" you get the impression that they think food stamps is causing the deficits in this country....and in reality that part of the budget is minute compared to things like military spending.

We get more bang for our buck with food stamps than what we're spending on a stinkin hammer that the military has purchased...and in the process...we don't have to watch a nice portion of our country starve.
