| Tea Party Convention-laughable! Apparently in this country, there are 600 people who hate Obama enough that they will pay several hundred dollars and fly to Tennessee to talk about it. Ironically, these same folks probably spend a bunch of time complaining about the economy and joblessness, and how it's Obama's fault...yet have no trouble coughing up $550 to attend this convention.
The media coverage is just laughable--they're treating it like it's a big deal when it's only a few hundred people. I'm planning a conference for summer of 2011 and we expect more people than that.
And I'll eat my words in a few years if I'm wrong, but I don't think that is the case. Sarah Palin and this new strategy of hers. Aligning herself with the Tea Partiers....all the while criticizing Obama for running on a platform of change. Um, isn't that what the Tea Party is about, change? With her condescending attitude and nails-on-a-chalkboard voice, I think she alienates more people than she attracts.
Oh, and let's not forget the buttons and posters protesting 'teh socialism.' I really think, that people who are supposedly so opposed to socialism....I really really think that think socialism means that they go to work every day, work their butts off, while some people sit at home. Then at the end of the week, they're afraid they'll have to hand in their paychecks for redistribution. All the while enjoying their socialized education system, roads, fire protection, police protection, garbage collection, mail delivery.........

Both have made the Federal Government bigger than what the Constitution allows and have changed our laws and our country from what once made it great.
The Tea Party movement is tired of politicians working for their own agenda and ignoring the shouts of "WE THE PEOPLE". It's not about CHANGING, but going back to it's original state. It's all the CHANGE that got us in such a mess to begin with and that keeps digging us deeper.

| Re: Tea Party Convention-laughable! First of all, in my OP I said nothing about Democrats or Republicans. I understand that this "tea party" is about attracting disgruntled voters on both sides. So it's just interesting to me that they mock Obama, then use his election strategy (that worked, btw ). So which is it, is he stupid or isn't he? Or he is just dumb when it comes to running the gov't, but ok to use his ideas for elections?
It's laughable also that someone posted about the gov't being bigger than what the Constitution allows. I guess I missed the numbers portion in studying it. Funny how no one complains when our 4th amendment is taken from us.....
This group is founded on nothing but negativity--hate & fear. Nothing more. They have yet to suggest anything positive, and even when you see them pictured at rallies and what not, all of their posters and banners are "NO MORE whatever." Nothing positive to contribute, nothing.
Voters will tire of them very quickly, I predict this idea will backfire in a big way. You can't complain about partisan politics and negativity, then do nothing but gather all the time to do nothing but complain and criticize.
And yes, let's judge our gov't services based on one snowstorm--the 2nd biggest snowstorm since 1898. That's like saying let's judge all of motherhood and pregnancies based on the likes of Octomom or Mrs. Duggar. |

Yeah, I'll take all the mockery and eye rollery and shouting down that goes with that, but just reading the Tea Party Pledge makes it clear that it is not simply a matter of returning to fiscal conservatism and smaller government as is often the claim. I could actually understand that. What also further supports my opinion is the fact that nothing has really changed as drastically as people like to claim, but it is at this exact moment in history that The People™ have had "enough." The hypocrisy is astounding on many levels, one being the claim that Obama ran on a platform of change and that nothing has really changed, and then the claim that the change in this country has been so drastic and negative that "we" have had "enough."
I await the hyperbolic accusation that I believe everyone who joins/supports the whole Tea Party movement is categorically racist, but I can see right through that shout it down tactic that's become so commonly confused for discourse. I think a lot of people are genuinely shooting for a return to fiscal conservatism and smaller government. I do, however, also think it's built on (among other things) racist motives.

| Re: Tea Party Convention-laughable! Yes, because being inconvenienced and not being able to easily get your Sunday coupon inserts is the same thing as the number of people who died and buildings that were lost in Katrina. Was that even supposed to be a serious sentiment? You're really comparing one poster's mom who hasn't had her road plowed yet to Katrina? And somehow in her sarcastic "Obama is great" tone, he now responsible for plowing the roads?

And can even one person show me where their taxes have gone up? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? And I'm asking for proof not a rebuttal of "well where else do you think the money is going to come from?" Just one person, show me that you are spending more on taxes now, more taken out of your paycheck--from the federal level. |
