We can barely get decent turnout from our population to real-vote. What makes you think they're going to want to exert the effort to fake-vote?

And like coriwesmom, all the poll workers know me, so I never show anything. But we've lived here 12 years and I've never missed an election--spring or fall. My stepmom says that makes me a "power voter" but I think she's full of horse poo. I do know that it means that a couple of times a year I get invited to FREE breakfasts with politicians to voice my opinion. They said my favorite word-FREE-and I'm there!

Darn teenagers and their fake ID's--always trying to get into the voting booth over and over!

When doctors speak to other doctors, they may use medical terminology, but when they speak to the patients and their families they speak in more common terms. It's actually a good thing for someone to know who they are speaking to and address them so that they may all understand.
Sorry, point was, Hedges dives into the rise of "junk politics" (where illusions are more important than reality) - what we are seeing now. This is part of it. It's an interesting read.

Oh, right, since you didn't specifically say Amish, now you're going to say you didn't mean them. Even though that's what the conversation was about.

This conflict is often what keeps them from voting--they cannot find it in their conscience to vote either for a woman's right to choose or support the death penalty. George Bush and John McCain both tried really hard to garner more Amish support to try to win PA.

Also, the "stolen soul" thing is a myth. It has to do with vanity and pride, the getting your picture taken thing.

And contrary to the wikimarymary, they do listen to the radio and watch tv, just not in their own homes. Some do have cable internet in their homes, as well as phones. And some have 'secret' cars. They also read newspapers and generally if you talk with some Amish, they have a decent understanding of basic current events. They pay taxes and vaccinate their kids, just at much lower compliance rates than the rest of us. They seek medical attention. They do not collect SS or unemployment, nor do they pay into it.

And I had posted this on fb, from our local paper, hilarious!

How often I have to repeat the conversation was not about just Amishes and Mennonites, but about people who oppose their picture taken for whatever reason, even self invented, would look for excuses not to do it?

But here in the United States of the Offended people sometimes misread things and go all to pieces and isn't that what makes for a great debate? So please carry on.
    Thank you!
