Default Re: Tea Party Convention-laughable!

If I remember correctly President Bush was blamed for Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath.
My first post had to do with the tea party. Since I go to Delaware as much as possible (no sales tax) to shop,I wrote that I support the tea party philosophy more than I do the raising taxes philosophy of President Obama.
A poster than wrote that you get government services with the tax money.
I then complained about the great government service I am getting in this snowstorm. If you read my post correctly you will notice I mention the govenor of my state and the mayor of New Orleans - no mention of President Obama in these posts.
I know by now if you say anything negative about Barack Obama on this board you are a racist so it comes with the territory.
So I am sorry if you got the wrong impression that I blamed President Obama for the snowstorm.
However,it is allowed to blame President Bush for Katrina.
And I will continue to shop in sales tax free Delaware.A funny thing - a lot of Maryland automobiles with Obama/Biden bumper stickers are parked in the Delaware stores parking lots also. They are'nt trying to avoid the Maryland 6% sales tax - Are they?

I wrote that I support the tea party philosophy more than I do the raising taxes philosophy of President Obama.
Again I'll ask for someone to please direct me to where Obama has raised taxes.

And you chose to pick the "no sales tax in Delaware!" with the wrong person, lol. I live 3 miles from the DE line (but in PA). Instead of your question of "gee why so many cars in the lot with PA/MD plates?" perhaps a better question is "gee, why do so many of the big Wilmington executives live in PA instead of DE?" To avoid Delaware's higher property taxes. That's why. Great, no sales tax, whoopee. But the state still has to get the money somewhere, and has higher income and property tax rates than neighboring states.

And I go to Christiana Mall because it's the closest mall to my house. Actually, I usually go to the Lancaster outlets because PA doesn't tax clothing or shoes anyway, but I digress. I get my pet supplies at Concord pet because it's the closest pet supply to my house. I go to Hockessin for wine/beer because......wait for it.....it's the closest liquor store to my house. Seeing a pattern?

And no one blamed Bush for Katrina happening, it's how he handled the aftermath. Or should I say, didn't handle the aftermath. "Hell of a job you're doing Brownie!"

On a somewhat more personal level. I have a friend online whose son is disabled...because the state cut medicaid funding he cannot get the wheelchair he needs...mind you he doesn't get "your poor" medicaid. He gets "your disabled" medicaid. She was on a different website trying to get help (since what Kansas has done has broken the law and they are putting a lawsuit together)...and the harassment from "Tea Party" people has been horrifying to her.

You know it's all fine and dandy to want less government...but telling people

"Why should I have to pay for your kids wheelchair"
"Your stealing from me"
"Why do you think your entitled to have your kid get a free wheelchair"
ect....

Is inhumane...and I find it so arrogant and well...hypocritical that someone without a disabled child or spouse or parent would have the nerve to spout such nonsense...when they have never walked that path before and have no idea what it is like.

And Jeez...where have we heard phrases like those ones...hmmmmm....

Back in the 1700's...the majority of the disabled people either one died or two were left abandoned by there families. No thanks 1700's don't want you back.
This is not about living as if it were the late 1700's, it is the principals of government. Do you think the Tea Party were the first dissenters of the government? Let's go back to Emerson, Thoreau, and the Transcendentalist movement. How about Paine?

'Resistance also served as part of Thoreau's metaphor which compared the government to a machine, and said that when the machine was working injustice it was the duty of conscientious citizens to be "a counter friction" (i.e., a resistance) "to stop the machine".'

I am sorry for your friend and her son have to endure that. However, the reality is this society really could careless if one suffers an illness unless it effects the people directly.

I think it's interesting that people want to label tea-party people as nuts. The huge problem with government and society today is that the spin Drs. get right in and put a label on everything and everyone. Character assassination is the norm in politics today.

I have a cousin that lives in DE - 500.00 a year property tax .Looks like one should'nt live in Wilmington - go to Georgetown.
I have no problem with anybody going to DE to save any money one can - it is a horrible economy right now.I have a friend who's moving to Delaware - Maryland is to expensive and the government services are not worth what we pay in taxes.
Trillon dollar budget deficits being proposed as far as the eye can see - we need to reduce spending now.

I see this a lot and it doesn't make sense. A lot of people are crying the blues about deficits, increased spending and passing along all this debt to future generations. Some of this stuff seems mutually exclusive. Tax cuts (during war?) = budget deficits. Balanced budget = revenue from somewhere. A lot of conservative types seem to be fine with a deficit as long as taxes are cut: 41% Fine With Budget Deficit If Taxes Are Cut - Rasmussen Reports

A large part of this whole budget deficit thing is in large part due to paying interest on debt accumulated by deficit spending by the GOP even from way back. Then we went into war without budgeting for it and now that it's included in the budget, yeah, it looks pretty "whoa." Still, it is what it is. No party is blameless, but the cries of "increased spending!", "deficits!", "personal responsibility!" (when so many are willing to pass this down to future generations to avoid paying for it now) are inconsistent to me when it's certainly not a one party or one president issue. The cries of "enough!" are a little latecoming, I think, which brings me back to this whole Tea Party thing.

But the Tea Party – come on. Geezzz. It’s just converted Republicans who don’t like being blamed.
I agree wholeheartedly with this.

My brother says Obama and Congress raised the federal tabacco tax around a year ago by around 60 cents a pack.Since I don't smoke I have to look it up. My brother does not make anywhere near $200,000 a year so I hope he's wrong because President Obama has promised many times he would not raise anyone's taxes if they make less than $ 200,000.

What Income Tax has he raised?. That is what that promise meant (and I in no means...think Obama is going to be able to not raise taxes)...but that promise was never meant to not raise the tax on a substance that is nothing but "bad for you" and optional.
