Katrina was a was a monster storm that impacted the whole gulf coast. This snowstorm affected a relatively small area. Bush and fema through everything they had at the storm as did every charity organization. Obama managed to get plowed out to talk to a group of democrats without any problem.

I remember Katrina well - especially all the yellow schoolbuses underwater that Mayor Nagin could have used to transport people to safety.
The point of Katrina was to show how the government screws up everything.
When we get 2 inches of snow in Maryland everything is paralyzed.(Thank you government !!!)
Colinsgrandmom was right - the storm this weekend in the Atlantic was rinky-dink. Upstate New York gets more snow than this on a regular basis. The government response was predictable - shameful and pathetic.

And who's supposed to pay the private companies? Private companies do this in a lot of cities, but it's still taxpayer money paying for it. Maybe we can go back to the days of private fire companies?

Default Re: Tea Party Convention-laughable!

I second what loaslaen said. I am a member of no party. Obama is a fool and the republicans and democrats are to. I am a independant fiscal conservative and the last tea party I went to had over 3,500 people at it when they expected 700. And that tea party was in a small town. The reason that there was such a small turn out to the Palin speech/ Tea Party is because it was a for-profit event and most of us don't want to pay to go to a tea party. Also, because the words "tea party" are being overused to mean anyone or any group against the government. People go to the tea parties because they are tired of the government getting too big and overstepping the bounds of the constitution. Also, Smee commented that tea party members are racist. While that "pledge" seems racist...that website you posted is NOT the offical website of any tea party member because they don't have an offical leader or website. There are several groups TRYING to claim they are leading but there is no offical leadership in place. So, please don't think all tea party attendees have read or agree with that pledge.

I don't know what the future holds, but I do know that I pay WAY to much money in taxes ( both State and Federal) for things I don't agree with or believe in. I know that the democrats way is not correct and the repulicans way is not correct either. Our dollar is weak and our economy, despite the "silver lining" some people are trying to see, is in bad shape. If you studied economics you would know that you CAN"T spend your way out of debt and if our dollar gets weak, we can't print more money because it will be worthless to other countries. Yet, we keep raising the debt ceiling and increasing the spending, which is fiscally and morally wrong no matter what side of the aisle you are on.

Nobody has said any such thing. As predicted, hyperbole, shoutdowns and namecalling are being confused for discourse. It's probably my fault for not clarifying. Except I did.

It appears the Tea Party people want to return to a version of Jeffersonian government.

Have we forgotten that the DOI and Constitution were drafted in response to a King who abused his power?

The only difference I see is we elect the abusers. The Judical branch eventually corrects its own errors. I can't say the same with the Executive.

I'm glad you feel that you have a cause, a purpose - but you seem to be so misguided.

Last time I checked, the role of President did not include "Weather God."

Sorry it snowed - but all of those issues with snow and mail and roads are local issues. Vote your city council and mayor out of office?!

But when my street floods because I live in a very rainy area - I curse the private company that did such a shoddy job putting in this private road. Also the (past) city council that didn't want to do it the right way.

So take your anger about your road not being cleared - and take it out on the right people. (*NOTE: I'm not defending Obama here - I just find it laughable that he is being blamed for your road not being clear, what next - he messed up when your kid fails their spelling test?)

I think that the US needs a third party – I completely think that the 2 party system is a huge problem. But the Tea Party – come on. Geezzz. It’s just converted Republicans who don’t like being blamed. And Palin? Only in America is stupidity praised and rewarded.

To clarify another issue I didn't make clear, I'm still not sure that Tea Party pledge isn't some sort of satire. It seems too ridiculous to be real. My issue with it, though, regardless of its validity is how many people (not specific to here) are claiming it and defending it which does IMO illustrate the issues I raised earlier-- that it's not just a matter of desire for fiscal conservatism and smaller government.

Default Re: Tea Party Convention-laughable!

Our country has evolved from the 1700's and I for one DO NOT WANT TO GO BACK to the 1700's. Sorry If I don't think things were swimmingly wonderful back then.

On a somewhat more personal level. I have a friend online whose son is disabled...because the state cut medicaid funding he cannot get the wheelchair he needs...mind you he doesn't get "your poor" medicaid. He gets "your disabled" medicaid. She was on a different website trying to get help (since what Kansas has done has broken the law and they are putting a lawsuit together)...and the harassment from "Tea Party" people has been horrifying to her.

You know it's all fine and dandy to want less government...but telling people

"Why should I have to pay for your kids wheelchair"
"Your stealing from me"
"Why do you think your entitled to have your kid get a free wheelchair"
ect....

Is inhumane...and I find it so arrogant and well...hypocritical that someone without a disabled child or spouse or parent would have the nerve to spout such nonsense...when they have never walked that path before and have no idea what it is like.

And Jeez...where have we heard phrases like those ones...hmmmmm....

Back in the 1700's...the majority of the disabled people either one died or two were left abandoned by there families. No thanks 1700's don't want you back.

As this country has evolved...so that we take care of the disabled, we don't let the poor starve to death, we provide schooling, we provide police and firemen and we get mail in a timely manner...it has to be paid for. I sorry but I do not see how you can get one without the other.

It is one thing to complain that your mailman loses your mail. It's another to try and abolish the postal service because the mail man lost your mail. It's a huge waste of time IMO.

I would love for the feds to be more efficient and to spend less money, and get rid of the pork. But I refuse to align myself with a cause that generates so much hate, negativity, and bigotry.
