    My question was:

Why do I have to pay sales tax again on a even exchange if I don't
    have my Receipt?

    Answer:

    Hey,
Thanks for emailing in about our exchange policy.
When processing an exchange, we first return and refund your original items, then charge for the new exchange items. Due to this, you are responsible for the new price of the item and any applicable sales tax.

    My question was:

So that means that if I bought the item On sale last week and need to exchange it for a different size and it's no longer on sale
That I need to pay the full price upon exchange??

    Response:

    Hey,

Thanks for the email. Unfortunately, we do not have control over our sale or clearance items. If the item is no longer on sale, you will need to pay the new price for the exchange. We apologize for any inconvenience.
For some reason this post really bothered me. It sounds like some really immature people run that company. It annoyed me so much that I emailed the company and told them that because I read about their ridiculous policies in an online complaint about them, that I also would never shop there again. Not that I would in the first place, my kids aren't quite that age yet.

    Hey there

I used to be a manager at Hollister Co. and we NEVER had that policy when I worked there. It's been two years so that may have changed. Secondly, we never returned things for a refund and then had a customer "re-purchase" the item for an exchange. The number of returns we did were tracked and the higher numbers made the store look bad. The system that we used allowed for an even exchange, especially when it was a sizing issue. Maybe things have changed, but I still find it ridiculous. I've seen people bring back OLD jeans and shirts that were obviously worn and was told to do an even exchange just because a button was missing. I'm sorry you had to deal with all that nonsense.

Thanks for your support Vanillagrrl, I asked them to stop sending e mails and will will write them a letter as well. I will have to mention the great service we got tonight when exchanging the "jeans in Question". Totally different crew and nothing but nice.

GWUgirlie, I must say I was quite surprised when CS that the exchange policy was what the store manager said it was. I surely thought she was just misunderstanding the policy, I guess not.

Wow. They won't give you the price you BOUGHT it at when it's an exchange for the exact item? That's ridiculous. Completely and totally. My MIL bought me a pretty expensive Christmas gift at Macy's. It was 189.00 regular price. It was on sale for 110-ish (with the sale and the coupon for an extra % off). When I opened it to use a few days after I got it, I realized that someone had used it before and it was RUINED (it's a Cuisinart Griddler, and it had clearly been used and cleaned improperly as the plates were scrubbed of their non-stick coating). I took it back, and it was back to full price, but she didn't even hesitate to do a price adjustment down to what it was the day it was purchased... coupon off and all!

I find it downright offensive to think that if I buy something for my child as a gift and happen to get the wrong size that I'd have to pay a higher price later. I guess I know which store NOT to venture into at my local mall...

I have both exchanged AND refunded at Target (multiple times) without a receipt. All they need is your debit card to find the transaction. Of course, if you paid with cash you have to have the receipt, but ALL debit/credit/gift card transactions are stored in the database and can be located at ANY Target store.
