and it breaks the "rules" of no religion in schools by simply reciting the pledge...but i wont get started on that since this isn't a thread about religion.

Yep, this isn't even newsworthy. It's just to push a certain agenda. If he had refused for ANY other reason, as most kids do/have already done, then we wouldn't be hearing about it.

Oh, the hypocrisy. If it were your favorite cause, you'd be crying persecution. Again.

Yes, someone really should shove those gays back into their closets, what with people pushing that equal rights agenda. The nerve of them.

ITA.

When I was in 10th grade, a girl in my class refused to stand during the pledge. Her reason was the treatment of Native Americans. It never made the headlines.

That's not true. The whole story is about the boy's refusing to stand for the pledge because of what he believes is unequal rights for gays. He was not persecuted or punished for his beliefs. He was not sent to the principal for refusing to stand, he was sent to the principal for telling the teacher to "jump off a bridge." He got in trouble for his INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR and used THAT to get media attention.

How many times are gays going to cry persecution. Again. They have the freedom to be gay if they want. Don't tell me they don't have the same rights as everyone else because some of us who have certain rights are now having them taken away from us.

Just like african americans have the freedom to be black?

Or straight people have the freedom to be straight?

Or women have the freedom to be girls?

Why can't we say they don't have the same rights as everyone else? Its a FACT. Whether you like it or not. THEY DON'T.

And..um... what rights are YOU having taken away?

She probably can't tell you because her right to discuss it on this board was taken away.

1. This is a PRIVATELY run board. She had no "rights" to begin with TO BE taken away.

2. BUT... if you feel like you are lacking rights...it sort of sucks doesn't it?
