i have been to walmart and grocery stores where people as soon as the 1st of the month arrives they spend $300-$400 on 2-3 carts on food most of it being junk food like candy and high expensive food that they really dont need or come around halloween or easter and xmas it is spent on candy for parties and stuff and not on the regular groceries that they need and they use up their money so fast that they dont have any left by the end of the month i have a friend that used to do this and i introduced her to the world of couponing and comping ads at walmart plus she is on WIC too so she usually has too much milk and cereal so she usually gives me some so that saves me from having to buy milk and cereal since milk now is getting close to $4.00 a gallon and cereal is getting higher too so now i have more money for bills and my dogs heartworm pills and all the animal stuff i have to deal with since i have nine stray cats living outdoors so im having to buy more food then i used to for them but i wouldnt give up my babies for anything in the world hopefully people will quit wasting their food stamp money since people keep getting laid off they need to make their dollars stretch longer and make food last longer

Oh, and also, I think your account of all the food stamp abusers that you regularly see at Walmart is incorrect. It's not candy and junk food they have in their carts, it's steak and lobster. Everyone here knows that food stamp abusers spend all their food stamps needlessly on lobster.

Nope, it's Doritos...there was awhole debate about Sati"s Doritos. i remember it quite well.
BTW, I find it odd to see someone complain about people buying all this 'junk food" with their allotment, and I'm guessing she thinks it's wrong to do so...but it's okay to take someone's milk that they get from WIC? :shrug7:

i agree with above poster (and many others out there too) you have too look at it with a couple of different eyes if you will. for example. in corpus christi, texas we have walmart and HEB grocery stores. basically, IMO, they rob you blind! the drove out the smaller grocery stores. we do have family dollar and dollar general and dollar tree. so we really truly don't have these other stores out there like albertsons and piggly wiggly and such. unfortunately. and i know our area is NOT the only one like that. we don't even have other stores near us that sell items these coupons can be used on cuz they stick to off brand stuff that walmart and HEB don't sell. not the name brand stuff the coupons cover. then there are so many people that don't have cars that use the local city bus and its so hard to carry bags and bags of food for blocks and blocks and blocks. but there are a couple of mexican cuisine type stores, but meat is like the only cheap thing there when its on sale. don't get me wrong, i like it when it is, i can get liver right now for under .90c a lb! and i do when its cheap enough! but i can also tell you that i have seen it over $2 a lb like last year! ugh! so in regards to using food stamps and how can they blow through them so fast? well, easy. choices are domino sugar at HEB or great value at walmart. you can't just take your grocery bags to walmart after you were at HEB cuz they will likely give you a fit. they don't have a car to leave it in so they would have to. they can't carry a lot cuz they don't have a car. then you have to look at the wants and needs too, among other things. its easier to carry a box of premade stuff than to carry all the ingredients to make the same thing. some of it comes down to wants and needs and poor money management and poor choice decision when you are buying at the store. and a lot of it is ignorance. they just don't know how to use coupons properly. and then there are many that don't care to know cuz its easier to do it their way than it is to use or search or learn how to use coupons! and it truly is so much cheaper to buy the un healthy stuff than it is to buy the healthier stuff. we have done it to ourselves because we want to pay for conveneince...it cuts us short in the end and have no one to blame but our selves. its the american way cuz we pay for what we want instead of what we need... i mean i could go on forever. many of us could. it doesn't mean i agree with it cuz i truly don't......

....just another thought. 2 many people are doing what they have to do 2 get what they WANT instead of what they NEED! there is a huge difference. they always think about worrying about the consequences later. then when they catch up with them they complain about not having this or that and its because they bought WANTS instead of NEEDSf...suffer then. IMO anyway. and another thing about no jobs out there. there are. there are LOTS and lots of fast food jobs. but they don't want that. i don't like people sitting on the system and making excuses. i wish the state would make them go do X amount community service hours if they don't have a job. unless you are laid up in a hospital bed, there is no excuse to give back to your community in one way or another...

See, to me it's hilarious that every.single.time we discuss either food stamps or wic it comes down to the same scenario..

So many people just "know" some able-bodied-but-doesn't-want-to-work individual. This person is usually female and, judging by the number of children she has, has a very high libido. Forget pharmaceutical research on viagra, they should be researching welfare recipients to see what drives them to have such high desire. Nevertheless, this person is content to stay home and have sex and play video games rather than seek gainful employment.

Then, on the first of every month, these women descend on supermarkets nationwide. Once there, they proceed to fill up their carts with lobster, steak, soda and junk food. Then they waltz, yes, waltz up to the registers. They don't just walk, they dance up to the registers, because, remember--these women are PROUD they are on assistance. Once at the registers, they display that AFDC/WIC card as if it was a membership card to MENSA, making sure that everyone around them sees it.

Now, what you may not know, because it's HCW's best kept secret, is that some on here have the solution for breaking the cycle of poverty. Yep, it's true. There are people on here that have been able to figure out what literally thousands of educators, social workers and gov't officials have not been able to fix--breaking the cycle of poverty!

You might think you know what it is--since 70% of all illiterate folks live in poverty, you might think it's education or something like that, right? Maybe affordable child care or something?

Nope. It's red plum and smartsource. I know, right? Who knew? If these women could only get their Dorito-stained hands on more inserts, swallow that pride and do some dumpster-diving for more coupons, and take the time to do what we do.....they wouldn't have to live in poverty.

Nevermind that many of them can't read or do math, they just need to do what we do, and there wouldn't be any more poor people.

You make it sound like people who receive assistance don't work. There's alot of people who receive assistance and work, but their income does not support their needs. There's people that work their butts off in facilities with no air in the summer, or outdoors when it's hot, or cold, and they work manual jobs that affect their bodies and wear them down. ...while someone else may work in an air-conditioned workplace, sitting at a desk, playing on their computer when work slacks, and they get paid twice as much as the other person and work half as long.

There's alot of people who DO work that fast-food job you mentioned, who have families to support, and it's not enough to get by. There are LOTS and LOTS of jobs out there that are low-income.

IMO, the people out there who complain about food stamps ought to go out and do community service in those communities and maybe they might grow a little more compassion for their fellow human beings.
It's 35 cents off of ground round,

Just in case anyone reading this thread isn't aware....the numbers for food stamps and WIC are VERY DIFFERENT. Your income allowance for WIC is much much higher....family of 5...we can make at least 40K a year and still get WIC.

And for those that are aghast at that and think why would you need WIC if your making 40K a year. My son's formula is $1000 a month, you take that out of our income (not that we make 40K now) and we're back to living in abject poverty.

I do have to agree....why on earth is that milk not getting drunk by the child it was intended for????

I have given away eggs ONE TIME....because they used to give you way more...and when I got home I realized how many dang packages of eggs...so I gave a couple to our SIL(although technically I gave her the ones I bought)...but by in large...we use every last bit off it one way or another.

Most people getting WIC do not get food stamps.
So if the person getting WIC is buying lobster as well....don't huck stones at her...she is probably buying it with her own money....I haven't ever bought lobster....but I'm sure I've purchased fish sticks at the same time.
