| Re: Walmart moving in on Girl Scout cookie domain?? Keebler Foods Company, majority owned by Flowers Industries, Inc., is the second largest cookie and cracker manufacturer in the United States, marketing its products in more than 75,000 retail locations in the country and in selected international markets. Keebler's brands include Cheez-It, Famous Amos, Plantation, Murray, Ready Crust, and its signature Keebler brand. In addition to manufacturing private label cookies and crackers, the company ranks as the leading manufacturer of Girl Scout Cookies, producing more than 60 percent of such cookies sold.

That still doesnt answer my ? though hmmmm | The question about it being ok for Keebler and not ok for Walmart? Well, I'm the one that posted that Keebler owns the company that makes GS cookies, but I didn't state an opinion on the matter. I think it's perfectly fine for either company to make and sell cookies similar to GS cookies. I'm not very fond of monopolies.

| Re: Walmart moving in on Girl Scout cookie domain?? loaslaen I was more so referring to the comment Tonyarn made saying she didnt consider them a knock off b/c they owned the company.
I just found that it was interesting that they owned the company and wanted more info on that to see why ppl were not making a stink about them (keebler) having a replica GS cookie in their line like they are about WM. If it was b/c they did own the plant ect.

I'm all for Girl Scouts.. My DD wants to be one and my little sister is one. But ITA with hbaqueen.. i will be right there to buy the cookies when they go on clearance because no one will by them.. although $6 a box is rather out there.. and i don't have it in the budget to spend $6 for a box of cookies i can get for $2 or less. |

| Re: Walmart moving in on Girl Scout cookie domain?? Okay, I could swear I bought GS cookies the last time they sold them. If I could eat Samoas every day (ie afford it) I would. I know I didn't pay $6 a box. I know this because as much as I love them, I will NEVER pay $6 a box, especially since they have reduced the # of cookies in the package in the past few years!

I know camp isn't something they all NEED, but for some of them it is the best thing to get away for a week or so.
I would NOT buy them, and even if they sold the real things in the store (it's been rumored) I wouldn't buy them, and I won't get the DQ stuff either simply because I KNOW what that cookie $$ could do for one little girl, and I would rather pay $3.00 a box more so a little girl can go to camp than put even more $$ in the hands of Corporate America, esp. Wal-Mart
But, that's just me because I've seen the difference it can make. | I agree here. When I lived in FL many years ago, I sold 1,609 boxes one year. I consider my self a professional seller, lol.
I think the big uproar, and rightly so, is that Walmart is moving in on a good thing. Of course, legally they can, but we all know they aren't going to turn around and put that cookie money back in to the community. You buying the Walmart style cookies is only going to pad Corporate America's pockets, and I think a large majority of us all feel the same way about CA. Buying GS cookies, you know it is going to help little girls go to camp and do all the fun stuff you do in GS.
I would not buy them for a few reasons.
1. (and most importantly) Walmart blows.
2. They are so rare. Once a year!! I think about those Samoas on a regular basis and when I finally get my grubby hands on one of those cookies, life sure is good! With the prices inching up as they have, I can't just go and inhale a whole box like I could years ago. I have to pace myself.
Its kind of like paying taxes for welfare and all that baloney that's been said around HUTC. Most of us would love to choose where to send our money if we MUST give it away. You want to make sure your money is going to something good, right? Well, in the grand scheme of things, Walmart ain't doing anything for little girls out there. GS and selling GS cookies is.
FYI: Tons of people sent GS cookies to us when we were in Iraq. BEST. THING. EVER. |

Personally, I'd rather see the Girl Scouts doing something that engages them in the actual creation of fund-raising items and get 100% of the profits. I believe that's the way the cookies started out, with the mothers and daughters spending quality time together in the kitchen making the cookies from scratch and then selling them. What kind of confidence and life skills do you garner from having some company make your items and your parents sell them in the office?

EVER. | They'll inch up even further with WM selling their own version, just make up for the sales loss. I was a girl scout, and was always so sad when someone would say 'no' to our cookies cuz they can get similar ones elsewhere for much cheaper. Many ppl dont realize what these cookies can do. |
